Sparks flew on a brisk autumn night when Sam and Ida first met in 2014 in Manhattan. Sam and Ida built their relationship over long distance. Sam was woking in Connecticut, while Ida was rotating through medical school in Brooklyn. After many years of living apart, Sam and Ida were able to start their lives in Philadelphia.

Among the sofreyé aghd's other traditional elements is a bowl of honey, which the couple will feed each other after exchanging their vows. This symbolizes the idea of the couple agreeing to feed each other sweetness for the rest of their lives. 

At the end of the reception, guests circle the couple and toss flower petals, symbolizing happy wishes, on them as they dance.

Persian wedding traditions date back thousands of years—pretty incredible if you ask us! One of the most important traditions is the sofreyé aghd—the table the soonlyweds sit at during the ceremony. It is covered with symbolic elements representing the couple or their marriage, like a mirror, gold coins or spices. 

While most Persian weddings will have a lively celebrations and an abundance of flowers, the true core of any Persian wedding is the couple's respect for their family.
