We met on the dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel, in Winter 2016. Ben rescheduled our second date, moving it to a bar in Washington D.C., so he could watch his beloved Maryland Terps beat Hawaii in the NCAA Tournament. When Rachel was willing to tolerate his game-watching antics, Ben knew she was a keeper. Before starting law school, and soon after meeting Rachel, Ben set off for China and Europe for six weeks. He was so smitten, even after only knowing Rachel for a short while, that he sent her three love letters during his trip. For Rachel, that sealed the deal (despite his disappointing college basketball loyalties). Since Ben started law school in Charlottesville, both Ben and Rachel have made the drive up and down Rt. 29 countless times, taking advantage of weekends and school vacations to see each other as much as possible. In less than three years, they have traveled widely--visiting Europe and Asia and making multiple trips to national parks within the U.S. Ben proposed in June 2018 with a ring--but, more importantly, a dutch oven Le Creuset pot in hand. The cookware sealed the deal, and Rachel said yes to a lifetime of love, adventure, and--for the sake of the marriage--prayers that Maryland and UVA do not schedule each other in basketball.
