On a Thursday in October of 2018, Rylee was scrolling Facebook on her lunch break when a picture of her favorite donuts caught her eye. She didn’t recognize the man, Nick, who had posted them so she started creeping on his profile. She remembers asking herself how she had never noticed him before because he was really handsome, but what made an even bigger impression was how open he was about his faith and how his heart for God seemed to shine through all of his posts. She decided to message him and ask him on a date. Nick recalls running out of his office to tell his receptionist that a girl he had followed on social media for a while but was too scared to talk to had just asked him out. They made plans to go to Nick’s church together on Sunday, followed by brunch. But after an evening of conversation, Rylee couldn’t wait till Sunday to meet him. She messaged him again Friday morning asking if they could meet that evening. They met up with plans to go to a movie but after four hours of conversation with what felt like a best friend they had known their entire lives, they realized they had missed the movie entirely. Both Rylee and Nick had been previously married and both had stated they wouldn’t put themselves through marriage again, feeling as though the risk of being hurt just wasn’t worth it. However, after just a few short days they felt as though it would be a dishonor to God not to get married. Rylee has always had a strong intuition, something she now knows is the Holy Spirit, and while past relationships always caused her to feel like something was wrong, she remembers feeling complete peace and trust in the Lord when it came to Nick. She returned to work on Monday and told all of her coworkers, who had heard her say for years she would never get married again, that she had met her future husband. Nick, wanting to show Rylee how serious he was about their relationship but knowing it was crazy to propose after 5 days, bought her a promise ring. However, he knew by the time he picked it up, just eight days after they met, that he was going to marry her. He decided to ask her and she said yes! As they began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted it to be about them and their covenant with God. They both had large weddings previously so they decided to elope to Glacier National Park in Montana. Rylee and Nick are so thankful God has given them a second chance to do marriage His way, keeping him at the center. They feel their marriage is a testimony for those who have experienced the pain of divorce and they have enjoyed sharing their story with others and leading a marriage small group through their church.
