Meeting/ Love story: They always say that you meet ‘the one’ when you least expect it. That is exactly how I met nick. We met at a Santa pub crawl in providence RI that I attended with two of my best friends, who are sisters. They introduced me to their cousin (my now husband) and said they knew that we would hit it off, get married and then I would become their cousin too (little did I know that's exactly what would end up happening!) I was only supposed to stay for a few hours and actually had plans to go to Boston that night. Nick and I hit it off instantly and talked for hours, to the point where everyone had moved to the next bar on the pub crawl list and we didn’t even notice. I didn’t end up going to Boston and decided to spend the rest of the night getting to know him more. Everyone brought a change of clothes for the end of the night to go to a dressy lounge (I of course only had my full Santa suit that I had been wearing that day since I thought I would be in Boston), when everyone changed into their dresses, nick stayed in his Santa suit with me so that I wasn’t the only one dressed as Santa. He drove me home, called me the next day and we went to dinner that night and were together ever since. Proposal Story: Almost exactly a year after we met I had to go in for brain surgery. While In the waiting room, he asked my parents permission to marry me. They said that he might want to think about asking them again after I was awake and recovered because there were no guarantees as to how I would be when I woke up. He told them none of that mattered and that he would always love me no matter what, no matter how I ended up. As soon as I was recovered, we went to old orchard beach Maine for the weekend where my parents have a summer place (and where we since bought one there as well) to spend a relaxing Valentine’s Day together. We went to the beach in Old Orchard on Valentine’s Day, to carry out a tradition that we started on our ‘6 months anniversary.’ We drank a whole bottle of wine on the beach and wrote a love note to each other, put it in the empty bottle and threw it out to sea. We decided to throw a love note in a bottle on every anniversary. We took the bottle to the beach in Maine to throw In the water for our one year anniversary. When he first tossed it in it to the ocean, it came right back to us. I laughed and jokingly said ‘whoops I hope this isn’t a symbol of our love’ I turned to see him down on one knee holding a ring saying ‘no this is.’ Wedding theme: We had a ‘secret garden’ themed wedding, based on my favorite movie as a kid, ‘The Secret Garden.’ We had mirrors all around the room filled together love poems, because of nick love of reading. While studying engineering in Germany, Nick fell in love with German beer, so we have set up ‘Nicks Biergarten’ for guests who want to sample some authentic German brews. We had a Greek band and greek dancers, a nod to my Greek heritage, and instead of a champagne toast, we did an ouzo toast. We ended the night with a LED robot sent in from Miami, a nod to our love of nightclubs and EDM. Our favors were antique glass bottles with a scroll of paper and pencils tied to them so that our guest could throw their own love notes out to sea.
