Monica took a little while to warm up to Adam but he pretty much fell in love at first sight. 

They had been friends for a long time when Adam received a job interview that would cause him to need to re-locate.  The thought of Adam no longer being a constant in her life caused Monica to find herself realizing how much he meant to her. 

Once that light bulb went off and she realized what she'd been looking for was right in front of her she asked Adam to be her boyfriend immediately.
