Glamorous and Fun – those are two words to describe Micah and Davida’s wedding NIGHT. That’s right, we said night! The Royal Scott Wedding took place in the evening outside the Westin Hotel in Huntsville, Alabama. Full of laughter, culture, and a whole lot of sparkle, this bride and groom celebrated their union in style. Micah and Davila’s relationship, as described by them, was full of “EXTRA-ness”. What started as a playful, but determined bet bloomed into a beautiful relationship. From DM’s to dates to the actual proposal, it was clear that Micah and Davida were just the “extra” that they needed in a forever partner. The wedding planning incorporated the essence of their relationship with sparkle and glamour in every detail. The couple originally planned for a destination wedding in Georgia, changed the venue to the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans, and then finally decided to settle at the Westin Hotel in their hometown of Hunstville, Alabama. The morning of the wedding, we filmed the bride opening a sweet gift from her soon to be husband while reading a long, heartfelt note. The bride wore a custom pink gown made by Elarose Sweet Weddings before changing into her stunning and EXTRA sparkly wedding gown by the same designer. The groom, on the other hand, wore Tom Ford tuxedo with his own flare of bedazzled shoes. Classy and timeless, the designers were the perfect fit for Micah and Davida’s special night. As wedding videographers, we are always excited for new ideas, and an outdoor wedding at night was definitely new. However, with a night wedding comes many challenges – the first being lighting. It was important to get enough lights in the right positions so that every important person was well lit during the ceremony. Working closely with the wedding planner (before and during the wedding), we were able to use 3 Aputure LED lights (one of them my favorite, the Aputure 120d II) powered by huge batteries to create a perfect three point lighting setup for the ceremony. Looking at the footage, the night ceremony footage turned out AMAZING! A major highlight to the night was the groom’s grandmother’s walk down the aisle. This meant so much to Micah and we were excited to be able to capture such a sentimental detail. Incorporating personality and tradition, the bride and groom also jumped over a (bedazzled) broom just after getting married. Often performed at black weddings, this ceremony served as an open declaration to seal the union. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds would hold hands while jumping over the broom and begin their new journey together. This was such a cool tradition to experience in addition to Micah and Davida’s already unique wedding. Following the ceremony, we had 10 minutes to work on the creative photos session with our photographer in which we too had to light every single shot. Though it was challenging, the results were completely worth it. We were so impressed with the turn out and now look forward to filming more night weddings in the future! The reception was filled with toasts, speeches, and a whole lot of dancing that kept the party going all night long. It was extremely special to the bride and groom that all their friends could join them from out of town, despite an ongoing pandemic, to celebrate the happiest day of their lives.
