West planned a surprise proposal over Labor Day weekend 2018. According to Meredith, "It was the best!!!!!" It was near her birthday which is how he was able to get everyone in town. They started out heading to "dinner at the Oceanic for an early birthday celebration with a couple of friends" when her sister let them know she was running late and her roommate was held up at work, which wasn't out of the ordinary. So they decided to drive down their favorite street on Harbor Island (also not weird) to kill time. West parked and claimed there was a new dock we hadn't seen before. They walked towards the park on the water where Meredith saw a note and flowers and quickly realized what was happening. She also saw Amanda, their photographer, hiding in the bushes (LOL)! After she said yes, they proceeded to "dinner at the Oceanic" -- West told her not to call anyone yet because he wanted to wait until they got there to FaceTime people together.
As they pulled into the condos next to Oceanic, Meredith saw both of their families anxiously awaiting their arrival. She said, "It was so fun to walk in and see them all together!" West was still able to convince Meredith to hold off on calling or telling anyone else so they could just enjoy the moment with family. However, dinner plans changed as the families told Meredith they were in fact going to dinner, "just the families", at Bluewater instead of Oceanic.
They were dropped off at Bluewater and walked upstairs -- West told her he had the top room reserved for their families and said they would go out on the balcony, overlooking the marina, to call their friends. Instead, Meredith walked into a room full of 50 of their favorite people! Well done West!! Well done!
Meredith is from Wilmington, NC but went to NCSU for undergrad and grad school in the College of Design, studying repeat pattern and textile design. Her dream was to have her own design company, which now she does, Designs A La Mere. In fact, Meredith designed and created all of her bridesmaids' dresses, the backdrop for the band, and many of the paper goods and textiles used through out the day. It was absolutely gorgeous!
