This is not a short story. We did not meet and instantly know. Connection, sure. We discovered early on that we just 'clicked'. We also quickly discovered a shared love for handwritten letters. Meaghan loved the personal touch of handwriting a letter and coming home to an actual piece of mail that wasn't an ad or a bogus offer for something she "won"! Dustin had been using letters as a way to reconnect with some friends he had grown apart from. At their first group dinner together, Meaghan said “I want a letter, too!” And that night when they walked away to their cars, she made sure to remind him, saying “You better write me a letter!” He did. Dustin would check the mailbox with an excitement he never felt before, wondering if there would be one of Meaghan’s small blue envelopes waiting for him. (Without realizing it, he was falling in love with her, and her handwriting) Through countless letters (and Edible Arrangements she sent him on his birthday two years in a row), several parties, cookouts and dinners we discovered lots of things we had in common, and lots of differences that make us work really well. Meaghan talks enough for the both of them and she breaks him out of his shell by planning social family and friend events. Dustin makes Meaghan slow down and enjoy things a bit more, especially when it comes to her creative side. Sharing a love for painting and shooting pictures together has brought them incredible memories and experiences. During those three years, we became best friends, shared many inside jokes, some ugly sweaters, some high and low points. (Dustin turned Meaghan down when she asked him to dance at a wedding, Twice!) Any way. Despite several 'almost' confessions, 3 years later, Dustin got up the nerve to write a different kind of letter. It must have gone over well because we went on our first date a few days later.
