Their story? It was like something out of Grey's Anatomy. "We first met in residency. I was an Internal Medicine resident and Andrew was an Orthopedic resident. We had crossed paths a few times bc we both started at the same time at UMASS in 2010, but never really spoke to each other. There was one occasion I was on the medicine/ Orthopedic consult team, and we had to postpone one of his cases to repair a femur fracture on an elderly lady because we found that she had a cardiac arrhythmia and needed a pacemaker. I had to chase him down a stairwell with my attending to stop the surgery. The moment when we officially met and spoke to one another was in September 2012. We were residents on service at the same time at the Memorial hospital. My Medicine team consulted him on an elderly patient with a clavicular fracture - - I was the resident team leader, and had asked my 3rd year med student, 4th year med student, then intern to page the on call ortho resident about my patient, but no one returned their calls. So finally, I paged Andy who was on call that day to my cell phone bc I was on call until the late evening and he called me back on his, and the rest is history. It was September 12, 2012. I remember bc I had a terrible reaction to the flu shot and had to go to the ED!"
