Among the sofreyé aghd's other traditional elements is a bowl of honey, which the couple will feed each other after exchanging their vows. This symbolizes the idea of the couple agreeing to feed each other sweetness for the rest of their lives. 

At the end of the reception, guests circle the couple and toss flower petals, symbolizing happy wishes, on them as they dance.

Persian wedding traditions date back thousands of years—pretty incredible if you ask us! One of the most important traditions is the sofreyé aghd—the table the soonlyweds sit at during the ceremony. It is covered with symbolic elements representing the couple or their marriage, like a mirror, gold coins or spices. 

While most Persian weddings will have a lively celebrations and an abundance of flowers, the true core of any Persian wedding is the couple's respect for their family. This importance placed is family is part of the reason Persian weddings typically have between 300 and 1,000 guests in attendance. One of the many memorable parts of a Persian wedding is the procession when the wedding party typically dances down the aisle before the soonlyweds join with their parents.
