From the bride: HA!! My cousin and I wanted to go out dancing and decided on a local Latin restaurant/club called Don Coqui. I will talk to ANYONE so while we were waiting on line to enter, I started talking with the two girls in front of me. Finally we got into the dance area and went our separate ways. A few cocktails and many songs later we bumped into each other again - like old friends shouting and hugging. It turns out Erics cousin was celebrating her birthday there that night and he and his buddy came to celebrate and to ward off weirdos so she could enjoy herself. After seeing the shouting and hugging, Eric assumed I was his cousins friend - so he befriended me - we just hit it off. For the first month I SWORE he just wanted to be friends until he asked me on our first date to a knicks game. He is just awesome..genuine and so easy to talk to. Eric is also a very meticulous planner. He chose to propose on his birthday (now our wedding date too!). The year prior I planned several outings for his birthday including dinner at Morimoto. That year we skipped the restaurant after too many nights in the city. When I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday the following year he asked to go there and I thought nothing of it. That night he picked me up from my office we got all dressed up and had the omakase at morimoto. He casually mentioned that the spot where we took our first photo together on the high line was just a block away and he wanted to recreate it - i said I was tired and didn’t want to. We had dinner - in retrospect he seemed so calm and collected!! After dinner I gave in and agreed to recreate our first photo for his birthday. We were sitting at our spot overlooking the street through the glass box - we were speaking and then he stoically asked if I was ready to recreate our picture - I cocked my head a bit and said “ok...?” While we’re taking the photo he told me to look down - below were his best friends in the middle of the street (during a red light luckily) holding bright neon signs asking me to marry him. I was floored (SO many expletives)!!! Then flashes started going off all around us I realized it was another friend - then I looked behind him and my whole family and my friends were standing there!!! It was such a sweet surprise and I didn’t have the faintest clue it was coming!
