A lot of you may be unfamiliar with how the two of us met. We have actually known each other for almost 25 years since we attended elementary school together. Back then Cody had a lot more hair, a bleach blonde bowl cut to be exact. He was just as friendly and outgoing then, as he is now. Which of course got on my nerves and I constantly rolled my eyes at him on the school bus. Flash forward twenty years later, thanks to social media, the two of us happened to be friends on a few platforms. One day, Cody said that a picture I posted popped up on his timeline, and being the outgoing person he is, decided to send me a message. This message read "Hey didn't we used to be in band class together?" Which was absolutely not true, because Cody was in chorus, but I found it funny he used that to start a conversation. We started messaging just as friends, for a month or so before we decided to meet up. Cody had just moved to Charlotte, NC and was coming to MD for the birth of a friends baby. It just so happened to be tiki bar opening weekend, so I invited Cody to come. The moment I laid my eyes on that beautiful bald head, all stars aligned and I knew I had met my perfect match.
Cody decided to move back to MD so that I could continue with my nursing career path. And 6 short months later we got the surprising news that we were going to add an addition to our family. We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl who has changed our lives forever. Watching our daughter grow has been one of the biggest life pleasures we’ve ever known. I always knew that one day I’d want to share a last name with her and her Daddy. But life got hectic, with myself in nursing school and Cody starting his own business. So, when Cody proposed I did not see it coming. I had no idea how this man planned such a special surprise when he has worked 14 hour days for as long as I can remember.
For my 30th birthday I wanted to do something fun, so we planned a trip with our closest friends, Tyler and Olivia, to Vegas. Since we had never been we wanted to experience as much as we possibly could. One thing we for sure wanted to do, was take a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon. Unknowingly, Cody used this as the perfect opportunity to plan a proposal to me. When we arrived in Vegas, they were expecting snow for the first time in 18 years. This of course threw a wrench in Codys master plan. Panic set in at the helicopter travel place and he was doing everything he could to get us on that helicopter. They cancelled every single trip that day, except for ours. And it still never crossed my mind as to why they were letting us get on this helicopter, but they weren’t allowing anyone else. They did have to change the destination to Red Rock, which was no big deal, we were just happy to get to go. When we landed at the top of Red Rock Canyon, it was covered in snow. The desert.. covered in SNOW! - It was absolutely beautiful. Cody got on one knee and for the first time ever in his life, he was speechless. The man who never stops talking, had no words - just tears. Besides the birth of our daughter, this was the best moment of our lives. I finally got to say yes to sharing a last name with my two favorite people.
Our beautiful snow covered proposal inspired our winter wedding, and we can’t wait to share this special day with all of you! Thank you for reading about us, cheers!
