Kaylyn and Philip's two best friends tried to get them to meet for 2 years before they finally did! They finally met in New Orleans for a one night trip after Phil's winging ceremony. Kaylyn lived in Dallas and Phil was moving from Florida to San Diego, California. After over a year of long distance, Kaylyn moved to San Diego to be. with Philip. Kaylyn and Philip made it official in August in Las Vegas before the pandemic swept the world. If either partner, or both, are commissioned officers, they can have a ceremony exit beneath an archway of sabers held by other military members. Noncommissioned officers and enlisted personnel may instead go with the variation called the Arch of Rifles. Speaking of swords, another popular tradition is to cut the cake with a sword instead of a knife at the reception.
