For one summer, fate (and some hard work) would bring these two together. Julia and Joe worked together for a summer between semesters at law school.
Julia’s brother, John, gave us a great overview of how it all started during their ceremony:
Joe decided he was going to win Julia over (according to his best man, his friends were skeptical of his chances). Joe set out to win her heart with “rom com worthy measures.” He brought her favorite food to her office. He learned she liked crossword puzzles, so he would look up the answers to hard clues to impress her. (He quickly learned that this would only annoy the ever-competitive Julia).
When they returned to law school on opposite coasts, they would spend hours on the phone after studying. It seemed Joe’s efforts were paying off.
They eventually moved to Chicago together. The night before they bought their first home, Joe pre-proposed to Julia with a crossword puzzle and a family heirloom ring.
Now they do their crossword puzzles together, presumably without cheating. Their wedding day at the University of Chicago was elegant, intimate and personal. From their beautiful vows to the heartfelt (and hilarious) speeches by friends and family. It was a day that embodied so much of their love and their story.
I’ve known Julia and her family since the beginning of high school, and it was so special to be able to capture this day for them! They said “I Do” in the gorgeous Rockefeller Chapel, and we had a beautiful day for pictures around the campus.
