The first time Juda and Lillie met was when they were 12 years old at their Youth group at church, in the year of 2011. Both being amongst the surf community and being highly involved in a group called “Christian Surfers”, they regularly had contact with each other over the years of adolescence. By the age of 17, they began hanging out more, going on camps together, road-tripping and travelling to Indonesia, which they then quickly began “best friends.” However, they remained best friends for a solid 2 years before Lillie decided she would like Juda back. Juda battled through the friend zone, then the best friend zone to finally come out on top when he asked her to be his girlfriend on 21 February 2017, the night before he moved 5 hours away for University. Through it, all Juda held fast to a simple motto, "Pray, Pay and Pursue". These, in the end, gained her love and her heart and they were so stoked to finally be dating, having the solid foundation of friendship at the core of their relationship. July 19, 2018, was a day they will never forget, the day Juda asked Lillie to spend the rest of his life with her. It was a cold, dark and early in the morning when Juda turned up at Lillie’s house to take her on a “surprise” adventure. He told her 5 things she needed to pack for the day and to meet him in the car in 30 minutes. Getting into the car, Juda handed her an envelope stating “Adventure #1” on it. Opening the envelope it said “let's start this day where our relationship began”, which was on top of an island you could walk over to from land, looking out over their home town. They hiked up the island, and the sun began to rise for the new day. Dolphins jumped in excitement in the ocean waters below, as they knew what was to come. Lillie heard Juda rustling into his pocket as they gazed out over the harbour, to see him hand her another envelope, stating “Adventure #2, let's ride off into the horizon on a motorised horse”. Shortly after, they arrived at the boat ramp to find a jet ski waiting patiently there for them. Approaching the opening of the harbour on that motorised horse, Juda asked Lillie for her favourite beach she would like to go to, and they then skied towards where more surprises were installed. They dived with TWO wild pods of dolphins on their way, snorkelled with the turtles and surfed the waves until getting back onto the jet ski to find out what adventure laid next. ‘Adventure #3. “Let’s treat you to some of your favourite foods from a favourite cafe.. with a twist..” They began heading north on the ski and found themselves driving up a river mouth. Once they parked up onto the sandbank, Juda began to lead Lillie towards a picnic which had been privately set up by friends moments before. A fruit platter, hot drinks, avocado on sourdough toast, and their two favourite smoothie bowls were awaited them to feast on. “Adventure #4. Let’s do something you’ve always wanted to do. Hint it involves a paddle…” Grabbing the stand up paddleboard from the bush, Juda then lead Lillie towards the river, towing her gently up the stream as she rode behind the jet ski. After jet-skiing, Juda took Lillie on a short trip up a mountain overlooking their home town, to take time to rest and fill in some time before their next adventure. Juda slipped out a sneaky Adventure #5 enveloped which simply wrote: “Let's go adventuring amongst kangaroo’s.” Before anything took place, a quick stop to the ice cream shop for a $2 double scoop cone was needed. Arriving at the headland, together they hopped, chased and patted the roos, which then shortly lead them to a secret cave/waterhole where they launched themselves in and had a snorkel as the thrilling waves roared in and out of the cave. Together they collected exotic seashells and kept them for the memories of that day. At this stage, Lillie definitely knew something was up, and questioned in her mind if Juda was actually going to propose. She kept telling herself no so she wouldn’t get her hopes up. As the two arrived home to Juda’s parent's house, Juda asked Lillie to put on the selective outfit she choose for the evening and freshen up to her desire. Lillie approached the stairs below her to find Juda awaiting her at the bottom, taking her by the hand and leading her to the car. Nervously they both sat, as Juda passed the final envelope to Lillie. “Adventure #6. Let’s have a picnic under the stars.” Dusk began to approach and the two began to walk up their local beach. Up over the headland stairs, they went, to then veer off the main path towards a secret headland. Their hearts raced with anticipation with what was yet to come. Jars filled with memories lit the pathway up towards the open space of the headland, where a hand-made teepee of sticks, twine, and fairy lights were displayed. They reminisced on the life they’ve shared together as they sat beneath the starry tee-pee under layered by blankets, sunflowers, fruits, Thai foods, all of Lillie’s favourite chocolates, snacks, and wine as the symphony of smooth jazz slipped off into the sunset. Juda took Lillie by the hand and lead her to the edge of the headland overlooking the ocean. Juda drew out of his pocket a little draw string bag which Lillie had given to him the day they began dating. Out it, he revealed the shells they had collected during the adventures of that day. Juda then reached a little deeper into the bag and took hold of something very special. Holding onto this, out of sight from Lillie’s eyes, he began to say to her “now this next item symbolises the next adventure we have to come.” In a single moment that felt like forever, Juda removed the item from the bag as he dropped to one knee and asked Lillie the question “Lillie will you marry me?”
