Jon and I are a modern NYC love story. We met on Bumble in August 2016, moved in together, got engaged, and married in a little over two years. What I loved about the way Jon approached Bumble was that we didn't exchange more than three messages back and forth before he asked me out - Bumble was the intro-point, but wanted to get to know me in person immediately so our first date really felt like just that. Our courtship was easy and our relationship progressed quickly, but never felt rushed. On the last night of our one-year anniversary trip to Grenada, Jon surprised me with a dinner on the beach, and proposed - I swear I don't remember a thing he said I was so completely surprised! We got married in Charlotte, NC in October 2018. Planning a wedding from NYC was not easy at times, but Jon and I both agreed that the music, food and booze were our top priorities - we just wanted our friends and family to have a good time and feel like they were at one big dinner party. We kept things fairly traditional during the ceremony, but did things our way during the reception. Jon's best man, Matt Lipkins, sang our first dance which is a memory we'll always treasure. We skipped a cake in lieu of late night gelato and a tater tot nacho bar. We both spent the entire night dancing with the people we love most - it was perfect. My best advice is to make sure you're planning the wedding you and your partner want - it sounds simple but it's easy to lose sight of that as the decisions and to-do's pile up. I also can't recommend getting a videographer enough. We almost skipped it and I am SO glad we didn't. The day is such a blur in memory - to have a real snapshot into the moments that matter is priceless. Lastly, choose vendors you connect with. These people will be with you in some of your most intimate moments all day long. Find people that you feel comfortable with, who get you, and who you will want to have around as part of your celebration - it really matters! Don't discount personal recommendations - that's how every single vendor came to us and we are so, so grateful; those vendors are now friends we adore.
