How we met: Joey and I met at the University of Kentucky through mutual friends while celebrating the 2012 basketball National Championship. Proposal: I was on vacation with my family in Aruba, Joey couldn’t come because he was defending his masters the week we were there. I had been sending him pictures of Aruba all week, and on Wednesday sent him a good luck text as he would be defending his masters on Wednesday morning. We spent the day on the beach that day and had plans for dinner on Eagle Beach that night. My parents told me we would be getting family pictures taken on the beach before dinner by the photographers there. So we get to dinner and immediately start taking pictures, while they’re taking pictures of me and my mom, Joey came walking up behind us with flowers and tapped me on the shoulder, I thought I had seen a ghost. I had so many questions, how did he get here? When did he get here? Did he defend his masters? And he took me for a short walk down the beach where he then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I, of course, said yes, still in disbelief as to what is happening. We had an AMAZING dinner on the beach and got to enjoy the rest of our week in Aruba together as an engaged couple, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Unique Wedding: As you can tell from the proposal story, Joey loves surprises. As soon as the speeches and first dances were finished Joey and I are walking off the dance floor to our seats, and lion king starts playing over the speakers, I was extremely confused, looked over at our DJ, next thing I know Joey sat me down in a seat front and center on the dance floor, all of the groomsmen showed up and started to participate in the same dance. I had no idea what was going on, I was in COMPLETE shock the entire time. Everyone asked me, “did you know?!” No! I had absolutely no idea this was going to be happening. Apparently, they had “dance practices” before the wedding, my brother would come up from Lexington for it and everything. You can tell from the video their practices definitely paid off. We landed in Italy for our honeymoon and turned our phones on only to find out it had gone viral overnight, we still watch it and get a laugh out of it every now and then. Joey and Laura were married on August 4, 2018, in Lexington, Kentucky, and chose Reel Special to capture their wedding video. You may have seen the best groom and groomsmen dance EVER with the video that went viral immediately after the wedding reception. Joey and his guys absolutely brought the house down and Laura was speechless in the best ways possible. We had so much fun capturing wedding video footage of everyone dancing that we didn’t want to leave!
