Jordan and I met in October of 2017 in Kansas City via Bumble. I had just moved there from Austin a few months before to be with my long-distance boyfriend at the time, and we broke up (thank goodness) a short time after I'd moved - so I really wasn't looking for anything serious on the apps since my breakup was so recent.
He was also feeling pretty jaded about dating in general at the time, so he ended up asking me on a date to Sharks, this very dive-y billiards bar, thinking that the date wouldn't amount to much. We can't say it was love at first sight considering the setting + the fact that he was watching the Chiefs game over my head half the time, but we had some great conversation and ended up going on a proper date about a month later to Q39. We realized we had a ton in common and have been together ever since!
We moved to Austin together (for me, it was returning to Austin - for him, it was moving out of KC for the first time) in May of 2019. The first few months were pretty stressful with trying to find new housing, getting acclimated to new jobs, lots of work travel for me, etc. so Jordan decided to book us a trip to Hawaii in September to give us a relaxing vaca to look forward to. He proposed in this beautiful botanical garden on the side of Haleakala volcano, which was my mom and dad's favorite destination on their honeymoon thirty years earlier.
Since then, Jordan has changed jobs to work at Facebook (same company as me!) and we've done our best to navigate through the pandemic, a pretty crazy Texas Snowmaggedon where we didn't have heat or electricity in a snowstorm for three days, and buying our first home together in November.
Overall, we're deeply committed to each other, our families, and our friends, whether they're in Austin, KC, or elsewhere. We love hanging out with our pets, being outside and hiking, playing tennis, traveling together, and trying new restaurants and bars.
