We were married in a Flash wedding on Loving Day 12 June 2020 on the steps of the US Supreme Court in Washington DC. Our original wedding had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Two days out we decided to have a small wedding to share hope and love in the midst of the protests and the pandemic. Corbett and my son are graduates of The United States Military Academy - West Point. We all get together every year to attend the Army/Navy football game. After the game, we were both in the presence of the mutual friend. Corbett introduced himself and we became friends. Once we started dating, we kept our relationship a secret for year before letting them all know we were dating. We were in Europe visiting for two weeks. Corbett said there were multiple times he wanted to propose but was afraid to do it front of so many people. Finally, he proposed in the hotel in Germany on our last night before we flew back to the States. Months had gone by and I still had not given Corbett a wedding date. So, he proposed again later that year while we were on vacation in Colorado. At once, we chose June 12 (Loving Day 2020) as our wedding day. Besides marrying my best friend, it was hearing the protesters cheer after Corbett explained the relevance of Loving Day and why we chose that date. From Corbett: My favorite memory from the day was standing there with my best friend and saying our vows. I remember so vividly how beautiful she looked and the emotion that filled me when I first made eye contact with Michele as she approached me. I remember the touch of her hand as we put the rings on each other’s fingers. Michele was so stunning my heart literally stopped! It really was if the whole world had faded away and only she existed at that moment. For me, it was magical. I married my best friend and the woman I admire.
