We actually grew up together in the church (He started coming his sophomore year. We're the same age). My parents were the pastors at the time, so our family knew him well. My older brother was also his homegroup leader/discipler at the time, so they got super close. Since they hung out all the time, I naturally also hung out with them and all three of us were the best of friends. We also became much closer because we went to the same high school. (At this point, our friendship was purely platonic. We both were in other relationships.) Fast-forward to junior year of college (we still kept in touch) - I just came back from studying abroad & for the first time since we've known each other, we were both single (!) I was going home for church from Pepperdine and he commuted to Cal Poly Pomona, so we'd see each other every weekend. We fell right back into our close friendship and this time around, it occurred to us that maybe we'd be so perfect for each other if we dated. We thought we'd give it a try since we were such good friends. In the next season, we actually had to take a step back and wait a year until we could actually date (my parents felt like God was saying now is not the right time and we should wait a year till we both graduated). A year later (after a tough year of waiting), my parents gave us their blessings in June of 2016 after we graduated from college. It was a turning point for our relationship as we entered into a new season together with a new church and navigating adulthood. Now it's been almost 4 years and we're getting married! It was all worth the wait and know that it was all in God's perfect timing. :)
