Brittany and Ryan are a couple from Texas who followed in the footsteps of the bride's grandparents by marrying in a church in Davos, Switzerland. During and just after World War II, more than 60,000 US servicemen married women overseas and their wives received free passage to the US. American solider 'Pops' had been stationed in Germany during the end of WWII and during a brief trip to Switzerland to enjoy a spot of skiing, he ended up in a local hospital with a broken leg. It was here that he met 'Tootsie', who would regularly visit the hospital with a handful of mountain flowers to cheer up convalescing soldiers. After a romance that continued via letters between Germany and Switzerland, the couple got married in 1946. Transportation was challenging due to the tens of thousands of returning soliders and immigrants attempring to board ships bound for America. Pops departed with his army unit and Tootsie set sail from France to Ellis Island in 1946 leaving her family in Switzerland behind. Fast forward to 2018 and granddaughter Brittany, with Ryan, travelled to Davos to marry in the same church in honour of the bride's War Bride family history. The travel-loving couple enjoyed a heartfelt and wonderfully simple wedding with just their very closest friends and immediate family. This was followed by a marvellous celebratory dinner at Hotel Walserhuus Sertig, housed under the mountain peaks of Hochducan and Mittagshorn, where Brittany wore a transformed version of her Grandmother’s wedding dress.
