We met at Liberty University, once through mutual friends and then again at tryouts for the Equestrian team. Brittany has been riding for 12 years and our mutual friend was on Brittany's team. She told Cory and another friend, who had both never ridden, to try out for the Western riding team just for fun as they needed beginner riders. Throughout the next semester, Cory's other friend quit but we spent a huge amount of time together building a friendship, neither of us looking for anything else. Summer came and Brittany's brother, Matthew decided to transfer to Liberty in the fall. Brittany asked Cory, her closest guy friend, if he would help her brother get to know some other guys since he would be new. Matthew and Cory became best friends and as a result, Brittany spent even more time with Cory and our friendship deepened. As time passed, a year and a half into a solid friendship, Cory realized maybe he did want something more with Brittany and Brittany really loved spending time with Cory. Cory could write a book on how to get out of the friendzone :) We started dating and Cory took Brittany to meet his family in North Carolina where we had our first 'real, official' date at Childress Vineyard, where we did a wine tasting and enjoyed the views of the grounds. Each time we visited North Carolina, we went back to that exact spot. We dated for a year and a half during which we visited a number of vineyards, withstood long distance, and grew in our education, careers, and relationship. In July 2017, during a visit to Childress Vineyard under the same gazebo from our first date, Cory surprised Brittany with her dream ring, and again, when he pointed up to a balcony, overlooking the proposal, where family and friends who had traveled to NC in secret, were watching and cheering for us.
