Jake and I met at Penn State in the fall of 2015 through a mutual friend and although brief, we both felt an instant connection. Any time we found ourselves in the same place over the year, it was effortless non-stop laughter and joy. The spring semester rolled around and we finally exchanged phone numbers right before I graduated. We found ourselves talking everyday, getting to know one another, and made plans to attend a summer music festival. One date turned into a week at the beach, meeting both families, attending a wedding together, and quickly falling in love. We decided to make our relationship official before I started my career in Boston and Jake headed back to PSU for one final year.
After Jake’s graduation in the spring of 2017, he moved up to Boston and we continued building the foundation of our lives together. The 5.5 years prior to getting engaged was filled was so much laughter, love, travels, family time, and everything in between. December 4th, 2021, we were headed downtown for a “weekend happy hour” with Jake’s coworkers. He knew I wouldn’t be able to stay away from a beautiful view so as soon as we walked past the Boston Harbor, I mentioned taking a quick walk to the end of the pier to which he happily obliged. It was here, one of our favorite places to walk early in our relationship, that he got down on one knee and proposed. I was completely surprised and couldn’t believe he managed to plan everything without me catching on. Jake had a photographer capture the moment, dinner plans in the North End, and a reservation at a beautiful hotel in the city. We spent the entire evening overjoyed and of course, laughing together.
