Emerald and Austin have a long history that dates all the way back to birth. With mothers who were friends before they were born, Emerald and Austin were early childhood playmates in Birmingham, AL. Although Emerald was moved away to Tennessee as a toddler, they eventually reconnected at age 13 during a church event in Huntsville, AL. Without remembering their prior history, Emerald and Austin were somehow drawn to each other. They spent that whole weekend with bashful glances, fluttering hearts, and (unbeknownst to them) relearning each other. Once the weekend drew to an end, Austin gave Emerald a tender adolescent kiss and they parted ways. Years later, Emerald had graduated college and moved back to Birmingham. Walking through the mall she heard a familiar voice call out.
“Emerald Grace Johnson”.
Who would know her whole name and dare to call her out in public? In a crowded mall plaza, there was Austin. He had spotted her in the midst of a wave of people after all these years. They exchanged contact information and kept in touch over the next couple of years until one day Austin took the leap and invited her over for dinner. Emerald spent the day with butterflies in her stomach, waiting impatiently as time ticked by. Eventually she arrived at his apartment and with one last look in the mirror, knocked on the door. They spent that night laughing and reconnecting and when Emerald got home, there was a smile that seemed to have found a home on her face. Their blossoming relationship would soon be put to the test though. Austin was moving to Huntsville to complete the rest of medical school. After many FaceTime calls, daily text messages, and nights falling asleep on the phone, they realized that they could no longer be apart. Emerald began to apply to jobs in Huntsville and within a few months they were reunited at last. One night Austin presented her with a book. It was filled with pictures of their time together and Emeralds smiling face.
“In all of these pictures you look so happy. I want to see your smile for the next 60 years if you’ll have me. Emerald Grace Johnson, will you marry me?”, Austin asked.
With tears in her eyes and a heart bursting with love, Emerald agreed to become Mrs. Hannah.
