From the couple: "Though Meridian House is a pretty traditional, Stephen and I chose it because it's in an urban setting. Though we prefer modern and minimalistic spaces for our personal environments, Meridian House possesses a sort of embassy-like feel which is true to DC. We plan to live in DC again at some point in our lives because we love the energy and access to the rest of the world here. Museums, performance venues, embassies, universities, beautiful national monuments, and a thriving and eclectic restaurant scene. It's developed so much in the past ten years and is only getting cooler with age. While planning a wedding from overseas, it made the most sense logistically to have an urban celebration in DC since we are both from there and our families are still based there. Despite the traditional environment, we have a slight tropical theme since we've have adapted so well to living in Okinawa. The wedding should be an interesting intersection of the sophistication of the venue with the casual island elegance of our floral and table design. I think the mood we want to go for is elegant and romantic yet fun and relaxed and definitely a little island-like. We like to do things differently and have our own vibe as a couple that is a bit unpredictable and free. We love to laugh and dance, and we really want to celebrate our relationship and the new injection of tropical life that we've been lucky enough to experience the past two years. I consider the small moments to be the most important aspect of our wedding day. First look experience, dancing with Stephen, intimate interactions with our family and friends, being surrounded by our family and friends after 2 years of lots of isolation from our prior lives."
