From The Bride:

HOW WE MET:
Caleb and I met when we were just twelve years old at Seminole Middle School. We happened to be in the same first period class in sixth grade. As the years went by, I always knew Caleb to be a man of God and a really funny and outgoing guy. We knew of each other but it wasn’t until tenth grade at sixteen years old in South Plantation High School that our story began. I remember having lunch with one of my friends and then I saw Caleb walking by. I kid you not, I had to do a double take because he was and still is the most handsome man I have ever seen in my life. I always joke around with him by saying that the summer of 2007 was good to him because that first day of school at lunch he honestly took my breath away. As he walked by, I asked my friend “Is that Caleb Corrales?” She ended up calling him over to our table. I immediately got so nervous and shy as he walked over to us. They both started talking to each other and I was just completely silent. A few seconds later I said “Hello Caleb” and he just looked at me and said “Hi.” That was it. I knew I was really attracted to him and I always knew what an awesome guy he was but I never thought it would lead to something else. Caleb ended up having lunch with my friends and I every day since that first day of tenth grade. He would bother me all the time, make fun of me, we would laugh together, and he ended up walking me to my next class once lunch was over. Our friendship grew stronger every day and I knew that I was starting to like him. We finally decided to hang out outside of school with some friends. Mind you, we were only sixteen so we didn’t have our license or cars yet. We talked about having a beach day with some friends from school. I remember getting to the beach with two of my friends and I was so nervous about seeing Caleb that day. Caleb finally gets to the beach…..but he didn’t come alone. Caleb brought his WHOLE family to the beach: Lidia (his mom), Mark (his stepdad), Joel (older brother), Lorin (older sister), Chris (younger brother), and even his cousin Jonathan! I still remember the face I made when I met his family. I was in complete shock. We weren’t even dating yet but he decided to bring them! To this day, however, I am so thankful he did that because it showed me how much of a family man he is and it brings me such sweet memories and reminders of why I love his crazy and awesome family. Caleb and I had the chance to walk hand in hand that day (the first time we held hands!!) along the beach and we were able to share with each other our feelings for one another and our expectations in a relationship. Yes, we were very young but God knew what He was doing during that time. On September 7, 2007 Caleb asked me to be his girlfriend. It was right outside my fourth period class. I smiled and said yes but I was also so nervous and excited that while we were saying bye I sneaked a quick half-lip pop kiss that to this day he still laughs at how quick the kiss was and how confused he was after I did that. Five months into our relationship on February 16, 2008 we said “I love you” to each other. Caleb and I dated for about four years. In 2011, we decided to call things off. I went to college at the University of Miami and he went to Florida International University. In the summer of 2012, we saw each other at a friend’s graduation party and it felt like we picked up at the peak of our relationship and we both realized how much we still loved each other. We got back together and were inseparable after that. We both made it a point that we definitely want to let God work on each other with the intentions of getting married in the future. That same year, however, Caleb decided to join the United States Marine Corps. Although it was such a difficult situation, I supported him all the way. From seeing each other every day to a long distance relationship, sometimes just communicating through letters, once a month skype calls, deployments, missed birthdays, and holidays was and still is not easy at all. Trusting in God, praying for each other, and having family and friends supporting us were definitely holding our relationship together. In the beginning of 2014, Caleb and I started talking about marriage. It was such a difficult subject to talk about because based on both of our life experiences, we both know marriage is really hard, but again, through a lot of prayer, we both knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. On October 10, 2014 Caleb proposed and what a beautiful night it was. Although our engagement has been one of the most difficult times in our relationship, we know God is in this, and we both cannot WAIT for our wedding day to FINALLY be together side by side for the rest our lives!

OUR PROPOSAL:
October 10, 2014 was a normal Friday for me. I went to school that day, went to the gym and then drove home. Around 8pm my mom started doing my nails because ironically enough I was going to a wedding the next day. I was a little bummed that night because I hadn’t heard from Caleb for a few days, but I wasn’t surprised because you really never know with the Marine Corps. My best friend Mandy ended up coming over that night to cheer me up a little. Our plan was to go to the movies. When my mom was done with my nails I went upstairs to my room, grabbed my wallet and came back down. All of a sudden, Mandy changes the plans. She said she was too tired to watch a movie and that we should just go get some frozen yogurt instead. Any of you reading this knows that I would NEVER turn down frozen yogurt so I immediately said yes, but what I didn’t know is that she was involved with Caleb’s proposal plan. We drove to the frozen yogurt place, got it to go and drove back to my house. Right when I opened the door I see my mom and my stepdad all dressed up. It was 10pm! I asked them “Where the heck are you guys going at this time of night?” Pops said they were going down to some show at the Intercontinental in Downtown Miami. While they hung out in the kitchen for a little while, Mandy asked me if she could borrow a sweater since she was cold. I went upstairs, opened my bedroom door, turned on the light and that’s when I saw HIM! He said to me “Hey Baby! Surprise!” I was in complete shock. I couldn’t believe CALEB WAS HOME! Tears started rolling down my cheeks as I hugged him and kissed him. It was the best surprise ever! But the night was not over yet. Caleb’s birthday was about a week before that (October 4th) so he said to me “Hey my mom is cutting a cake for me right now and she wants you to come. My family is waiting for us!” I looked at my watch and it was pretty late but I did not care. I was so excited and happy he was home! I changed very quickly and went downstairs. As mom and pops were heading out the door I told them I was heading over to Caleb’s house to cut a cake for him. I invited Mandy to come with us, which by the way, her and Caleb share the same birthday! But she said her mom wanted her home. So Caleb and I got in the car and started driving to his house. On the highway, he gets a call from his mom and she says “Does Tati prefer vanilla or chocolate cake?” Little did I know, this was code for Caleb letting him know everything was ready. On the way to his house Caleb missed the usual exit we take to his house. I said “Babe you missed the exit…where are you going?” He said he had to put gas in the car, which we usually go to this gas station a little further down, so everything seemed pretty normal to me. We get to the gas station, he puts gas in the car and we start driving towards his house. We were on Peters Road going over the bridge, and to the left of the bridge you can see our high school, which is where we started dating. I immediately said “Aww babe it’s South Plantation, where everything started!” He then asked whatever happened to one of the pictures we took a long time ago at the park across the street from our high school. Every day after school, Caleb and I would cross the street to this park and wait for my dad or mom to pick both of us up and we would give Caleb a ride home. I honestly had no idea what happened to that picture. Caleb ended up turning into the park and he said “Well, let’s retake the picture!” I started laughing, thinking this was so weird. I kept telling him that his mom is waiting for us to get to his house to cut the cake but he really wanted to take this picture. So we got out of the car, sat down on the bench we used to sit on after school and we took the picture. He then says “Ok let’s go!” We get back in the car and start driving to his house. As we are turning into his neighborhood I noticed he starts becoming really fidgety, as if he was looking for something. I asked him if something was wrong and if he lost anything. He stops the car in the middle of the street and says “I LOST MY KEYS.” He gets out of the car, turns on his phone flashlight and is looking for his keys. I thought it was the keys to his house so I said we could just go to his house and knock on the door. But he said it was the keys to his barracks back in North Carolina and he CANNOT lose those keys. I started helping him look all over the car, the backseats, underneath the mats, but we could not find those keys. He started freaking out, wondering if he dropped them at the park while we were taking pictures. So we hop back in the car and drive back to the park. Mind you, it is already 11:00pm and I was getting frustrated because I did not want to keep his mom waiting for us to cut the cake. (Not going to lie, I also REALLY wanted some cake too). We get to the park, get out of the car and start looking for his keys with our phone flashlights. We get to the bench we sat at and then all of a sudden he just puts his phone down and just hugs me. I felt his heartbeat and it was going at one thousand beats per minute it seemed. I hugged him back and I said to him “Baby it’s going to be okay. We are going to find your keys.” At this point I started feeling really bad because of his keys. He then stops hugging me, starts holding my hands, looks at me with a smile, and then gets down on one knee. He started to say a lot of things that I honestly to this day cannot remember. I was in complete shock, my legs and hands were shaking, I started crying, and then after he was finished saying everything I cannot remember, he finally said “So, Tatiana Borja Chavarro, will you marry me?” I was crying so much and smiling and laughing all at the same time and finally I said YES! And then I hear a bunch of cheers coming from the bushes. Both of our families appeared from the bushes! I could not believe it. It was one of the best nights of my life, a moment I will never forget that took place right in front of our high school, where our story began.
