Everything That Went Down at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Historic Wedding

Updated July 5, 2025

As you know if you follow us on Instagram, the Love Stories TV team was up bright and early to watch Meghan and Harry's The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Royal Wedding with our friends at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. Just rolling out of bed now and trying to catch-up? No worries, we got you. Here's the quick-and-dirty on today's historic events:

The Dress. Despite rumors that she might wear Stella McCartney or Ralph & Russo, the newly titled Duchess of Sussex wore a white, boat neck gown designed by Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of Givenchy. Simple, elegant, and a sign that the long-sleeve-dress trend isn't going anywhere. For anyone out there who plans to have this gown recreated for their own big day: you could easily add pockets. Just saying.

The Tiara. Meghan's tiara, loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II, was made in 1932 and originally belonged to Queen Mary of Teck, the wife of King George V. Created in 1893, the tiara held her 16-foot veil in place and its center brooch is studded with ten diamonds. Sparkles and Gatsby glam! We're here for it.

The Hair & Makeup.Meghan's simple, clean, makeup was done by her friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin, while her giant low-bun was styled by Serge Normant. She wore a pink-almost-coral lip color with a tint of shine. (Definitely looking forward to the onslaught of Get Meghan's Wedding Day Look! YouTube tutorials — bring 'em on!)

The Escort. Following the announcement that her father Thomas Markle would not be attending the wedding Prince Charles, Harry's father, escorted Meghan halfway down the aisle from the choir to Prince Harry.  His smile was enormous and our hearts were exploding. As Michelle Ruiz explains, Meghan made royal history by walking unescorted part way before meeting Prince Charles. (Read Ruiz's flawless unpacking of what many are calling a bold, feminist moment on Over the Moon.)

The Ceremony. The wedding was officiated by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and conducted by the Right Reverend David Conner, but American bishop Michael Bruce Curry gave a long sermon during which he discussed the power of love. He read from an iPad and the internet is obsessed with him.

The Vows.Harry and Meghan did not write their own vows. Just like Princess Diana and Kate Middleton, Meghan did not vow to obey Harry. Diana was the first to break from royal tradition by omitting the word at her wedding. Queen Elizabeth (at the time Princess Elizabeth) did vow to obey her husband, Prince Philip, at her 1948 wedding. The best part of the vows is the end when the cameras panned to Doria (Meghan's mom). She made us cry.

The Kiss. Meghan and Harry kissed for the first time as husband and wife on the steps of Windsor Castle, following their ceremony in St. George's Chapel. Then they walked down the stairs holding hands into a horse-drawn carriage. BEST MOMENT OF 2018.

Dress #2.For the reception Meghan changed into a Stella McCartney gown with a halter neckline. According to The Palace, \"The Bride's evening dress is designed by Stella McCartney and is a bespoke lily white high neck gown made of silk crepe. The Bride is wearing shoes from Aquazurra made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.\" Prediction: THIS is the dress every bride will wear in 2019. Can't wait.

Unfortunately Meghan and Harry did not hire a wedding videographer for their wedding (what?!) so one UK-based filmmaker took it upon themselves to create a video for them. It's perfect and we're obsessed. Watch it here.
