In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting the talented female filmmakers in the Love Stories TV community.
Part of our mission at Love Stories TV is help you find ideas and inspiration for your wedding. As the place to watch wedding videos, we make finding and hiring your wedding videographer on lovestoriestv.com especially easy. An important part of hiring any vendor is getting to know them! Today we're excited to introduce you to Alexandra Ruiz, the talented filmmaker behind Canvas & Light:
Hi! I'm Alexandra Ruiz. My journey with film started after I graduated from the journalism school at Colorado State University. I got a job as a reporter at CBS. I spent my time telling stories of floods, fires, marijuana (it's Colorado) and local politics. I took a break from all the news and traveled the world with my best friend Rachel. We went everywhere from Mongolia to Lebanon and many other countries in between filming a series of documentaries. Stateside we wanted a place to express our creativity that didn't require as many passport and visa applications (although half of our weddings are destination--which we love). Canvas & Light was born out of our passion for film, storytelling and the beauty of marriage. I truly find it one of the greatest honors to get to capture the moments that many hold onto forever. We're constantly re-inventing what we do and how we do it to give the best quality film out there. It's quite a dreamy thought to think that you can watch something we created to remember such a beautiful day. Cheers to many more!
Rochelle + Dakota | Kailua-Kona, Hawaii | Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel
More than half of the weddings we do are destination or out of state and we LOVE that. This one was especially fun because it was in Hawaii. Rochelle and Dakota got married next to the beach with all their friends hootin' and hollerin'. And those views! It was magical.
Danae and Dan might be the most beautiful, lovely and devoted couple on the planet. I never put my camera down during their wedding because everywhere I turned it was pure class and beauty. Plus, they were the most fun to work with.
To me, it is always one of the greatest honors when your friends want you to film their wedding. I've been close with Kelly for many years and loved watching her and Drew's relationship grow to marriage. We flew to Dallas to film this industrial, chic wedding. It was one of the most joyful celebrations I've ever been to. AND THE DANCING!
Olivia and Matt's wedding was West Coast meets Mountain West. People came from all over California and Hawaii to celebrate their stunning wedding in Vail. When I got to the wedding, Olivia told me that her Dad had gotten really sick and it was important for us to capture many of their moments together and his speech at the reception. There was not a dry eye in the room (including mine) as he shared his heart and gave some final words to the couple. It was such an honor to capture that speech for them and make it an integral part of the wedding video.
