Love Story Of The Day: Couple Teamed Up To Plan Their Dream Wedding And It Is EVERYTHING
Sabrina and John's Mission Ranch Carmel wedding in one word: breathtaking. The wedding location is right by Sabrina's parents' house, so the couple's family and friends stayed on site with them! Every detail of their special day was stunning, but most importantly, it was uniquely them. John is a designer and Sabrina loves event planning, so of course the couple teamed up to plan their special day. The Love Story:
John: I met Sabrina at a party in San Francisco that she and her roommates hosted in 2014. It was a pre-holiday harvest party with a flannel dress code that I consciously chose not to adhere to. I spotted her early in the night, she was wearing bright red lipstick and a black and white flannel. I thought she was cute, but she was across the room and I definitely was not confident enough to talk to her. However, later that night she came up to me to make sure I knew about the dress code. We chatted in the kitchen and while neither of us will say it was love at first sight, we did have a moment where we locked eyes and in my head a voice was screaming “Kiss her!\", but I did not and instead we went and had late night burritos. I stole her number and before the night ended had messaged her saying “I wouldn’t mind seeing you again.” Over our first few dates, we fell in love quickly and started spending as much time together as possible. Our love for traveling brought us even in closer together as we explored everywhere from Thailand to Italy to Yosemite National Park. On September 3, 2016 I asked Sabrina to marry me in Napa Valley, one of our favorite places to visit.
You were a breathtaking bride! Tell us about your vision and how the theme of your wedding came together, from your look (in love with your hair!) to the overall decor aesthetic.
Carmel-by-the-Sea was the first place that John and I had a conversation about getting married so we immediately knew this is where we wanted to have our wedding. My parents have a home in Carmel so we already had some locations that meant a lot to us including Mission Ranch. We were so excited to confirm this venue where all of our family and closest friends could stay onsite with us. John and I generally lean towards a more modern aesthetic so we wanted to make sure the farm-feel of Mission Ranch was merged with a modern, but pretty feel. We landed on the theme of \"elegant summer camp\". We interpreted this as simple and fun decor embracing the farm setting while keeping our floral, decor and paper design really beautiful. John is a designer so he custom designed all of the paper at our wedding from the invitations to the seating chart to the tags on our favors. This allowed us to keep a really strong design theme throughout the wedding. We also loved the over-the-top creative floral design of Christine Cater who we feel took our wedding from pretty to breathtaking. My look as a bride was very true to myself. I wanted a low effort dress (no poof) with long sleeves and an open back and did not settle for anything less. I also wanted the same for my hair and makeup. I made sure my outfit allowed me to let loose and dance the night away with my friends and family.
How did you find your videographer and what made you choose them?
We went through tons of different videographer sites and when we landed on Grover Films, we knew we wanted to work with them. We LOVED their work and loved that they worked as a husband and wife team. Their landscape drone clips combined with intimate moments of a couple's special day allowed their videos to capture the true feeling of a wedding… a mix of overwhelmingly big feelings little memories that will last forever. When we spoke to Ric on the phone to do our consultation we knew we wanted to work with Ric and Rose. Every question was answered, every request was accommodated and I think the finished product speaks for itself. We could not be happier with our beautiful video.
What was your favorite part of your wedding journey?
During the process, I was overwhelmed A LOT of the time. Planning a wedding is a second career! I love event planning and I am incredibly detail oriented so I did almost everything myself with the help of my incredibly talented husband. Though it had its moments of stress, working along side John to create the vision we had for our wedding was a deep bonding experience and brought us closer in so many ways. As I said, at times in the midst of the process it didn't feel this way, but looking back on the wedding, my favorite part of the journey was all the weekends and evenings we spent on the couch daydreaming, researching, designing and planning together. We worked together to make the wedding our own and I feel grateful to have a partner who wanted this to be a shared experience in every way.
What's your #1 piece of advice for future brides?
Wrap up every detail of your wedding planning one week before the wedding (everything from making favors to assembling gifts for your bridesmaids and out of town guests). Inevitably, something will still come up. In the few days leading up to my wedding one couple could not attend last minute, my aunt who was ill decided she would be able to make the trip and in turn my seating chart was changing constantly, but we could handle these hiccups in stride because everything else was taken care of. I felt so lucky to take advantage of a few days off before the wedding to spend time with friends and family from out of town, start my beauty routine in preparation for the wedding and relax a little knowing the details were in the hands of vendors I really trusted along with my ridiculously thorough spreadsheets and directions.
