From The Bride:

From the Bride… Eric and I first met in 2009 during our freshmen year at Denison University. We were both on campus early for my soccer and his football pre-season training, essentially a week filled with practices, ice baths, and staking out who we would be spending the next four years with on the hill.
We always argue about when we technical “first” saw each other. My side of the story does not seem to remember Eric seeing me covered in sweat from soccer practice in Shorney Hall where he proceeded (very smoothly) to “accidentally” bump into me with his guitar. I’m certain I chose to forget this first meeting as I was flustered being in a hallway filled with numerous, huge football players whose first impression of me was of pulled-back, pre-wrapped hair and smelly soccer gear. My heart-stopping, probably-could-have-gone-better, moment of attraction occurred when I saw him again later that evening in Smith Hall as I was carrying Trader Joe’s PB Bumpers to my soon-to-be best friend and MOH’s dorm room. He was wearing a white Ohio State hat and sleeveless tank, looking handsome as ever. I choked out a bashful greeting and offered him some cereal (seriously!?). From that moment, I knew I needed to talk to this boy again — without an entire box of kid’s organic cereal from my mother.
After countless late-night dorm hall chats, calculus study sessions, and a romantic, true freshmen-budget first date to Olive Garden, our favorite adventure began.
Fast forward to our first summer together in 2010. Eric was visiting me from Cincinnati and we spent the day playing ‘king of the rock’ and kayaking on Lake Erie. Later that evening Eric and I were reminiscing about purposely tipping over the kayak and him playfully laughing at me as mascara ran down my face. He said at that moment he knew he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of live with his messy, but beautiful best friend. And I hoped I would be lucky enough to marry him one day.
As the Bride, I started out wedding planning very eager and excited but also a bit discouraged. I had a vision but also found it hard to stay within our budget. Luckily, we agreed on a longer engagement and with the extended time I was able to find incredible, kind-hearted and extremely talented vendors and shape the wedding into a truly magical day.
For Eric, he learned how much actually goes into a wedding! For our entire 32-month engagement, Eric was over 4,500 miles away in Hawai’i. The distance made it difficult to share and make decisions on all the large and small details that go into planning. There were so many moments I wished he could have been a part of, but I knew he was where he belonged serving his country as an Army Officer. I cannot tell you the amount of times on our wedding day that he commented how amazed he was and how it all came together!
Even with all the distance, we made sure the wedding day was unique to us. From subtle design nods from our adventures thus far together to writing our own ceremony and vows – it truly captured who and where are important to us. Our ceremony was by far one of the most special parts of the day! All night we had guests telling us they have never been to a more beautiful, heart-felt and natural ceremony. It meant the world to us that we were able to convey how much love was present. And that was our entire focus for our forever day.
