Genevieve has been a friend of mine for several years and I was so, so honored to film this beautiful wedding. We met while both working in the College of International Studies at OU, which is also where she met Cameron - while working with the Arabic Flagship Program. Genevieve is from Portland, Oregon and while Cameron and his family are from Syria, they currently reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma - which is why they had a two day celebration - the ceremony and reception in Portland, and a second reception in Tulsa, honoring their Syrian traditions. The dabke dancing was so much fun to experience.
As with most 2020 engaged couples, their wedding plans were affected by COVID-19. They were originally supposed to get married in May, but ultimately decided to postpone to August, reducing the guest list and taking extra safety precautions. But after over eight years together, and a year and a half engagement so that they could plan their dream wedding, they were determined to still give their love and their commitment the celebration it deserved. Because of COVID, her Matron-of-Honor was unable to be there, but she sent in a pre-recorded speech that was such a lovely testament to her sweet friends and their love.
"You are surrounded today in person and in spirit with so many friends, family and loved ones who couldn't be happier that the two of you found each other and have chosen to spend your lives together."
You will hear part of her speech, and others, in this film and the sweet words spoken are such a true testament of how wonderful they are as people as well as how beautiful their love is. It truly is a love that is inspiring and humbling and I am so honored to be a part of telling their story.
