From The Bride:
Our love story has taken us from the beaches of Maryland to the mountains of Utah! We met at an end of season beach lifeguard party in Ocean City, MD. Jason was a lifeguard and I was working as a guide nearby at Assateague Island National Seashore for the summer. As a pale brunette, I was the only person in the bar without beachy blonde hair and a tan, and must have stuck out like a sore thumb! Jason struck up a conversation with me and bought me a drink. After chatting (and playing some competitive foosball!), he asked for my number at the end of the night. We shared pizza on the boardwalk, and strolled on the beach eating ice cream for our first date. We fell in love on shared adventures camping, backpaking, and traveling over the next year, but took a year apart as I followed my career to Southern Utah and Alaska with the National Park Service and Jason began medical school. When I returned to Virginia a year later for graduate school we spent time together again as friends, and quickly realized there were still lots of feelings there! We began dating again and later moved to Salt Lake City for Jason’s residency. We got engaged on a backpacking trip in Wyoming, overlooking the Teton range at sunset with our new puppy snoozing under the hammock, and knew that we wanted to get married in Utah and show our friends and family how amazing our new home state was!
