This Couple Donated Their Wedding Flower Wall to Charity For The Sweetest Reason

Alessandra works in events and Nick is a Creative Director, so OF COURSE they planned an epic wedding together. With an intimate ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and an industrial-yet-elegant reception at Tribeca Rooftop, their New York City wedding is A+ inspiration for anyone planning to get married in the city. Though I love a good skyline view, my favorite detail about Nick and Alessandra's wedding is what they decided to do the day after. Alessandra and Nick teamed up with Repeat Roses to donate their entire flower wall to charity so that families at the Ronald McDonald house could take professional portraits of their own. We interviewed Alessandra to learn more about her wedding and thoughtful donation. Watch the full film by White In Revery below and then read on for more!

The Love Story

How did you meet and fall in love?

It was the summer of 2009 and I had just moved to New York City. One weekend after a night out on the town, my friends and I decided to make one last stop at the local bar across the street from our apartment. I saw Nick and was immediately drawn to him and made my way over to introduce myself. We had a quick conversation and as the night wrapped up, we said our goodbyes, but failed to exchange information. As fate would have it, two weeks later we both happened to be at the same place at the same time. He looked familiar to me, but I wasn’t able to place how I recognized him so I decided to go up to him again and ask where I knew him from. Luckily, he remembered us meeting that first night and the rest was history.

We dated for a little over 5 years before getting engaged. Each year was better than the last and we became best friends, fell in love and never stopped having fun. We got engaged in August 2015 and after a year and a half engagement, we had the wedding of our dreams surrounded by our closest family and friends.

We decided to get married in the city where we met and fell in love. We set eyes on Tribeca Rooftop and immediately knew it was the perfect venue for us, but being able to get married in the historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral was truly magical. We assembled an incredible team and knew how fortunate we were to be able to have the wedding we always dreamed of. Through that process, we met Jennifer Grove from Repeat Roses which allowed us to use our wedding as a way to give back to those in need. Because of her organization, we were able to donate all of the flowers from our wedding to the children and families at the Ronald McDonald House and the Ralph Lauren Cancer Care & Treatment Center.

May 27, 2017 was the greatest day of our lives and through our beautiful video we get to relive each moment over and over again.

The Wedding

Your Monique Lhuillier dress is unbelievably gorgeous. How did you find it, and how did you know it was ~the one~?

Thank you! I found my dress at the Monique Lhuillier flagship in New York City. I actually almost cancelled my appointment because I thought I wouldn’t find anything, but am so glad I didn't! Before I started trying on dresses, I wasn’t really sure of the style and look I wanted. When I tried on my dress, it really made me so happy. I kept telling my mom that it was such a happy dress and I couldn't stop smiling. We didn’t buy it on the spot, but the next day I couldn’t stop thinking about it so that’s how I knew it was “the one.”

How did you pick your reception venue, Tribeca Rooftop? It's stunning!

Oddly enough Tribeca Rooftop was the first venue we went to go look at. We were actually planning to see its sister property which is in the same location, but once they took us upstairs and we saw the exposed brick, chandeliers and amazing rooftop, I just kind of knew that was it. It was a mix of the styles we love – a little industrial, but very elegant at the same time and the thought of having our cocktail hour on the roof overlooking the city seemed just perfect!

Your entire wedding is so elegant. Your film does such a great job of capturing all of the details that made your day so beautiful! What elements to your wedding were the most important to you, and how did you go about planning for them?**

I work in events so I had a really good idea of what I did and didn’t want. The music was always the most important to us. We wanted our guests to be dancing all night long. The food and décor definitely followed close thereafter. The venue has some of the most incredible food we’ve ever had and the selection for cocktail hour was unreal. From there, I really enjoyed planning all of the smaller details. Nick is a Creative Director so we wanted everything to feel cohesive – from the save the dates to the invitations to the welcome boxes in the hotel room when guests arrived to the linens, menus, flowers, etc. Everything felt like it belonged together.

Why did you decide to partner with Repeat Roses? What was the process of donating your flowers like?**

We knew we were very fortunate to be able to have the wedding of our dreams and our flowers were always going to be a pretty big statement piece to our wedding. When my mom found out about Jennifer and Repeat Roses, we instantly knew we wanted to donate our flowers. I couldn’t imagine all of our flowers going to waste and the best way we could think of to share our love was to help those in need. The most incredible part about donating our flowers was that Jennifer and her team were able to transport our flower wall intact so it was used the following day for family portrait sessions at the Ronald McDonald House. You can check out all of the photos from our wedding and the families who took part in the portrait session at @AlessandraandNick on Instagram!

What is your favorite moment from your wedding video?

There are so many it’s hard to pick just one! However, a few of my favorites are when my bridesmaids see me in my dress for the first time, Nick opening up the gift I got him and the shot of me walking down the aisle with my dad and Nick’s reaction.

How did you find White In Revery and why did you choose them to shoot your wedding?

Nick was a Creative Director for Atlantic Records for many years. Because of that, he was lucky to have a lot of connections with different video directors and photographers. White In Revery had a past history of working and creating videos in the music business and one of his close contacts had passed along their work as they had transitioned into wedding cinematography. We love their beautiful cinematic style and incredible ability to craft unique narratives for each wedding. Once we met with them and got to know them it was obvious they were the perfect team to work with and it was a very creative and collaborative process.

The Couple

What do you think the ~secret sauce~ to your relationship is?

I think the “secret sauce” to our relationship is that we love to have fun and were able to bring our two groups of friends together to create this amazing group of people who truly enjoy spending time together. We were very lucky to have two wildly supportive and close groups of friends individually that became even stronger together and have created their own special bonds which is very unique.

What are your three favorite things to do together in NYC?

We love to go to dinner and try out new great restaurants, waking up on Saturday or Sunday mornings and going to get coffee and fresh flowers for the week, taking our favorite workout classes and just enjoying everything the city has to offer.

What do you think is special about your love?

I think something really special about our love is that we are the same people together as we are apart. The only thing that changed was that our qualities individually made us stronger as a couple and better people. We are completely ourselves and truly best friends.

If you were to guess, where will you be and what will you be doing when you celebrate your 10-year wedding anniversary?

We will definitely be traveling celebrating our love on vacation! Maybe we will be in Paris celebrating in the city of love ☺.
