Christmas Love Stories

It's beginning to look a lot like CHRISTMAS! Winter weddings are secretly the best and if you don't believe me, you have to watch Adam and Sherrie's gorgeous video by Cineluxe Wedding Films. Adam and Sherrie knew they wanted a wedding that was a little different from the traditional fall or summer affair, and a Christmas wedding felt perfect. For one thing, everyone is already in a celebratory mood! Plus, Sherrie's grandparents were married at Christmastime, so the holiday is extra special for their family. Watch the magical film blow, and then read on for Sherrie's best tips for planning the perfect winter wedding.

Why did you decide to have a Christmas wedding? Would you recommend a Christmas wedding to other couples?

We loved our Christmas wedding! It's such a joyous time of year when everyone is in such a great mood and up for celebrating. There are lots of weddings in the summer so we wanted to spice things up and go against the grain. We're glad we did. We had a fresh snow fall the morning of the wedding! It was a true white wedding. :) Snow is one wedding decoration you can't pay for. My grandparents (and heroes) got married during the war, also at Christmas time, so that definitely influenced the decision as well, making it that much more sentimental. We totally recommend a Christmas time wedding, it's so magical!

Is there anything a couple planning a Christmas wedding should definitely know in advance?

With a Christmas wdding we would definitely recommend getting those invites out as soon as possible. People book family Christmas plans well in advance and you want to give your guests plenty of time to plan their holidays accordingly. Also, with weather being unpredictable, it's nice to give your guests a heads up the week-of with an update on conditions so that they can leave with plenty of time and not be late for the ceremony. We had people driving from all over the province and flying in from all over, so it's an important thing to keep in mind.

Your wedding dress is gorgeous! Who designed it and how did you know it was the one?

My wedding gown is a Mikaella. I chose it because it was a Canadian designer. I actually had a really hard time finding a dress. Originally I wanted long sleeves for my winter wedding, but there weren't many available here in Canada to try on. I also knew I wanted a form-fitting dress that was classic. I never had a \"this is the one\" moment. I was having a hard time because I was waiting for that feeling—I tried on so many dresses. At the end of the day, I just chose one I really liked. I felt beautiful in it and totally didn't mind that it didn't have sleeves. I would tell girls to not be discouraged if they don't cry or have a \"this is the one\" moment when picking a dress. I sure didn't, I just made myself make a decision after trying on so many. I was happy with the end result.

What are your best tips for styling your wedding dress in the winter?

If you're planning a winter wedding, you're going to want pictures in the snow! So prepare yourself with closed toe shoes (mine were open), and warm faux-furs or shawls. I also lifted my dress up in many of the outdoor photos because I didn't want to get it dirty/wet from the snow; don't do this! It doesn't look good. Get that dress dirty girl. ;) You're only wearing it once so don't be shy, get in there.

We are in love with your glam waves and hairpiece! What tips do you have for brides who are going for a similar look?

I knew I wanted the Hollywood wave for my wedding hair. It's so sexy and so classic! It stayed in place until the end of night. I felt Old Hollywood glamourous. My stylist Hayley Bloomfield is one of Toronto's finest stylists. She set my hair the day before so that the curls would hold well on the big day! The beautiful hair piece was by Laura Jayne. This hairstyle also works really well with a veil!

Describe the moment from your wedding day that stands out to you the most.

The moment that stands out to me the most is probably walking down the aisle with my dad, with my eyes on the prize. It was so surreal, I felt like I was floating. What a wonderful feeling to have all your friends and loved ones from near and far come together to witness one of the most important days of your life. It's almost too much to handle.

Tell us about something that was creative or unique to your wedding.

Definitely our wedding favors. We had a lot of laughs when it came to that. We run a business call MANDUST INC. so we thought we should have our own products that we make and sell at our very own wedding. We gave out bottles of MANDUST and LADYDUST to all our guests. It's a body powder that you use in your, shall we say, sweaty regions.

How did you find your filmmaker Cineluxe Wedding Films and what made you choose them?

We found our filmmaker because he was local, talented, and his price was totally fair! We reviewed a lot of his other work beforehand, so knew we were in really good hands. We could not have asked for a better videographer! It's such a gift to be able to re-watch your big day for years to come, there's so much going on the day of your wedding so a lot of details can be missed, making the video footage that much more important.

What is your favorite moment from your wedding film if you had to choose?

This question is impossible to answer, haha, there are so many precious moments in this film I adore. If I had to pick, walking up to the little white chapel in the snow with my dad! So much excitement, I was going to explode! But also exchanging vows with my prince and dancing with my new husband to \"You Make It Feel Like Christmas\" by Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton for our first dance. It was the most perfect song for us.
