There I was, at 16, meeting this 24 year old man with an orange moustache for the first time.
We were both dating other people, and even if we weren’t, there was absolutely no chemistry. We had met at a personal growth conference and then connected on social media, which luckily allowed him to watch me grow up over the years. We would occasionally run into each other at events and workshops, sharing a passion for self exploration. Fast forward to 2016, we again, met at a workshop, but this time something was different. It’s as if timing was right, and we were right. It confused my head, but my soul was clear. “It’s him”. And from there things evolved quickly, launching us both into the depths of each other. A year later we were engaged, and running Couples Retreats and teaching about Relationship in the modern world.

We planned our wedding in 2.5 months. After being engaged (and lazy) for 14 months.
It was quick (which we loved, because it meant we had to make decisions fast).
I remember growing up and believing that being bridezilla was the only way to plan a wedding, but we wanted to challenge that. We wanted to create the most stress free, fun experience.
And that’s exactly how it turned out. The entire planning process was peaceful and fun. I believe it’s because we trusted it would all work out perfectly, and our expectations weren’t rigid.
We dreamt of couches and cushions and carpets. Of a summer night under fairy lights and the stars, dancing barefoot on the grass. Pizza, and donuts and a whole bunch of special little rituals that meant something to us and our community.
And that’s exactly what happened.

My advice –
1. Is to set your intention for the planning and the day, BEFORE you start, so you have an anchor to come back to if things feel overwhelming at any point.
“Oh I feel stressed, what was our intention? To feel connected and to have fun. How can I invite more of that into my experience right now?”

2. This day is about the two of you. Yes, it’s about families coming together, and a big celebration, but above all else it’s YOU. This means to say “no” to anything that doesn’t feel like a full body YES. People will want to give you their opinions, and obligations. Unless it is an accurate representation of your relationship and what you’re wanting to create together – say no. You have permission.
*To note, your guests will have a great time anyway. Don’t be worried about making sure you’re a good host.

3. Decide how you want to FEEL on the day. Then trust and surrender. In the end, even if everything doesn’t look perfect – as long as it FEELS perfect then that’s all that really matters.

4. Your marriage is not a one day event, so as much as a wedding is a beautiful celebration of two people coming together in love, your marriage is everything else around that, so keep your connection as a couple a priority leading up to the day. Make sure to take time for YOU both and YOU individually so that you can be fully present int the experience.
