We met on OK Cupid. Konrad says he sent me a message first, but I think I really did. He saw my profile picture with my yellow lab “Toby” and had to send me a message. Konrad was living in LA and I was living in San Diego. We had several phone dates before we met in person in La Jolla.

Konrad and I planned a trip to Santa Barbara to have breakfast with some friends that were visiting and to make a weekend out of it. We met them for breakfast at the Four Seasons and went for an afternoon hike like we usually do when we were in town. When we stopped for lunch at the top of the mountain Konrad took off his backpack and got on one knee and proposed to me. At first I didn’t believe him, I may have interrupted a couple of times, and then thought this was just something humorous and spontaneous. Then he pulled out two “Happy Camper” enamel mugs a small bottle of champagne and I knew he was serious and had put some real thought into this. I said “Yes” and was speechless for a change. It didn’t hit me till our way down what had happened. Little did I know that this was the plan all along. He had asked my parents 2 weeks before when we went to visit them. He had also planned for a beautiful rose flower assortment, champagne and dinner back at the hotel. To say I was surprised is an understatement.

The big day…

We knew we would have to have 2 weddings. One in San Diego (where Jason is from) and one in Längenfeld, Austria (Konrad’s hometown) so that our closest friends and family could attend. We also knew that we wanted to be outside and do something active with our weddings. So our wedding was near the Torrey Pines Cliffs in La Jolla (where we first met and did our first hike) We had it outside in a Spanish style hacienda hotel. Reflective of old California and Mexican culture and near the beach with a beautiful outdoor feel. We combined it with a day of Yoga and running before the wedding, and a Torrey Pines hike the day after the wedding. Very much Jason’s roots.

In Austria we were married in a family hut up in the Austrian Alps above Konrad’s home town. We dressed in traditional lederhosen and had an outdoor wedding with dinner and music followed up inside the hut. We also combined the wedding with some outdoor hiking fun before the wedding, and an overnight hike after the wedding.

The best part of our weddings was looking at the faces of our parents and family. The smile on our parent’s face, and the words that were shared by our friends are hands down the best moments of both weddings. I’m so happy our photographer and videographers were able to capture these moments, because we have them in our hearts and on our walls forever.
