Q: How did the two of you meet?
A: Steve and I met at a mutual best friend’s wedding. Amanda has been my friend since we were 11 years old, and she and Steve were roommates in college. Surprisingly, we never crossed paths until Amanda’s rehearsal dinner. There was immediate chemistry, but I dragged my feet for a very long time before saying yes to our first date which was supposed to be a Wilco concert but was breakfast instead. Wilco was our second date. 🙂 I lived in Chicago, and he lived in Michigan for the first year of our relationship, but we made it work.

Q: Tell us about the proposal!
A: This past September 6th marked our 2 year anniversary, which we celebrated with a trip to Glacier National Park in Montana. We were there during all of the horrible forest fires, so hiking was not a real option for the most part. We took some short hikes to waterfalls and other places, but everywhere we went there were lots of other people. Our final hike of the day was to Paradise Beach, were we ended up being alone. Steve and I like to collect rocks from places we visit (geology nerds), so I was looking on the ground while I thought he was doing the same. He called me over to show me a rock. It was a geode. Embarrassingly, I said “it must have been a dud to have been thrown on the beach like that”, but he opened it to reveal my engagement ring. He said, “I love you and I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” I said “YES” and cried and couldn’t talk for about 30 minutes. It was the best day!

Q: Tell us about the wedding.
A: We had a relaxed ceremony surrounded by the people we love. We are not religious, so we will had a very brief ceremony officiated by my dad. We lean toward non-traditional. The bridesmaids, of which there are 5, wore the same hunter green dress, and the groomsmen, of which there are 8, were in the same dark blue suits. My two brothers, Charlie and Derek, and my best friend Amanda were my “people of honor.” Steve’s best man is his friend Mike, whom he has known since they were teeny kids. There was around 175 people attending. That included my grandparents, who were 92 and 88 for the wedding. The 15 minute ceremony was the most important part of the day. Goats were part of our meet and greet. That is part of what made me choose Cornman Farms. The other reason we chose the location is because we wanted to be outdoors in a rustic location. A golf course just wouldn’t cut it.
