While Alex and Courtney attended the same High School, they never met. Alex had a previous working relationship with Courtney’s mother working at the Hilton. They were introduced in this manner over an accidental group call to Courtney’s mother (he thought she was cute, and Courtney overheard the call), and eventually met for ice cream. They became fast friends, and it didn’t take long for that to evolve into something more. Alex asked Courtney out for dinner and a movie. He took her for coffee and then to Level 2 Steakhouse, where he had a knife previously made with her future married name on it. He was shaking, and acting weird, she thought he had low blood sugar and needed to eat. When they brought the knives out, Courtney thought a mistake had been made, and Alex took the opportunity to drop to one knee. She was so shocked at first that she forgot to say yes! Luckily, they both recovered, and happiness ensued. When we were planning our wedding, both his family’s catholic roots and our mutual love of fantasy stories-like the Legend of Zelda, and Harry Potter were prominent in our minds. We wanted a beautiful blend of tradition, and storybook. If I had to give any advice to couples, it’s to remember to relax and not get swept away in things that don’t really matter. We worked so hard planning every last detail-and the day of the wedding it poured and thundered all day, so half of our plans were wrecked or alternated. But I don’t think either of us cared on that day. All that mattered was being in the moment and the feelings of the day.
