A Classic Richmond Wedding Rich in Detail and Full of Hokie Spirit

“You two are both modern enough to survive the times, but traditional enough to last forever.” Her sister’s eloquent toast at Caroline and Edwin’s wedding couldn’t have been translated better into all the classic, yet vogue and romantic, aspects of their luxe wedding day.

“Our wedding planning was crazy, with lots of ups and downs,” says Caroline. “We knew we wanted a ballroom venue, which to us seemed more grand and romantic. After searching in multiple cities, my grandmother suggested The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, and I knew that was it.”

Caroline’s wedding vision was concise from the beginning. “I chose Champagne and Navy as my color theme – Champagne is a classic – and my drink of choice. Creams and metallics were colors in our palette, because I wanted a trendy infusion, with the navy added for an extra pop. Edwin had a custom-made suit in the brighter hue, and the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s suits were a variation on a classic navy.”

This elegant, stylish look found its way into every nuance. “I love details. My bouquet I had envisioned with a vogue design – white roses and gardenias, with a single deep blue delphinium blossom.” Every table at the reception had a different look and three height variations – but the theme was classic and seamlessly transitioned throughout. “We even took the antique ceiling molding of the Jefferson Hotel Ballroom and baked it into the design of our wedding cake.”

“Our friends and family said it was the most well-put-together wedding they had ever seen.”

“Our actual wedding ceremony was a full Catholic Mass – combining our lives together under God was integral to us. Walking down the aisle with my Dad was such a surreal feeling, and the cathedral was radiant with love.”

And their ornate reception? “Edwin’s mother is a phenomenal baker. She made over 2,000 cookies from scratch, covering three banquet tables. Our guests were taking tons of cookies home in our custom cookie boxes and asking for any remainders after the event.”

“Edwin and I attended and met at Virginia Tech – so we made sure to have the Hokie Jumping included, of course! We capped off the evening with customized glow-sticks and renditions of songs that meant so much to our relationship and our wedding party.”

From the white-blossom-covered trolley ride with her Dad by her side, through the solemn Mass, right through the “icing” of a groomsman after the bouquet and garter toss, Caroline was focused on every detail – right down to the font on every place card. “We were so happy to be able to enjoy what we had planned so hard for and say: Heck yes! We did this right!”
