Gian and Lawrence knew within a few weeks that they might want to spend the rest of their lives together. Their story is heartwarming and filled with adventure, just like their wedding in Estes Park, Colorado. Watch their gorgeous video by Olena Films below and then read on for our interview with Gian.
I lived in North Carolina at the time and he was on a travel nurse assignment at a hospital there. We eventually made mutual friends and attended one mutual friend’s graduation party. I remember seeing Lawrence and something about him just intrigued me. At the end of the night, I saw that he was about to leave, so I immediately approached him and asked him to take me home out of nowhere. He then agreed, and we stayed up all night just talking and laughing. The rest is history.
Estes Park is such a stunning backdrop in your wedding video. How did you decide on the location?
We really wanted a mountain background and the mountains in Estes Park were our favorite. 90% of our guests are from out of state, and Estes Park wasn’t too long of a drive from Denver where we lived. It was beautiful and convenient at the same time.
What were the most important parts of your wedding to you, and how did you plan for them?
We wanted a small intimate wedding with our family and friends. We also made sure to include our dogs in the wedding party! Many people focus on the reception, but we really wanted the ceremony to be the most meaningful and memorable. We both spent hours editing and perfecting the ceremony script because we wanted it to be unique to us as a couple. Our ceremony script and vows reflect our adventures.
3 months already? Best 3 months ever☺️ Fun fact: our reception entrance song was Congratulations by Post Malone😆 . . . . . . #Lawriantravels #MadeJas4EachOther #rockymountainbride #willowbyinez #Willowbybride #dirtybootsmessyhair #brides #meaningfulwedding #justalittleloveinspo #meaningfulwedding #junebugweddings #junebugwedding #rockymtmbride #estespark #estesparkcolorado #estespark #wedcolorado
I especially love your flower crown and the bouquets. How did you find Enchanted Florist? Any flower crown tips for brides who are considering wearing one on their wedding day?
Thank you! I wanted a florist that was local to Estes Park. The team at Enchanted Florist was so responsive, patient, and helpful to all my requests. I made so many changes throughout the process, and they adjusted every detail that I asked for. I looked at a lot of Pinterest pictures! Another thing to consider is if you want your hair up or down because it definitely creates a different look with a flower crown. I’m not a jewelry girl, but I still wanted to feel beautiful and feminine. My dress was very simple and lace-y, and I think the flower crown really completed the look. It was earth-y and very boho.
What advice would you give a couple who is planning their wedding right now that no one gave you?
Planning a wedding can be crazy and stressful. People will have suggestions and opinions about your wedding and you might feel pressured from the pictures you see online or what people expect from you. The most important thing is to always remember that the wedding is ultimately about you and your partner. If you want a unicorn back ride entrance, do a unicorn back ride entrance! If you want to elope, go elope! Try your hardest not to stress about the little details. At the end of the day, it will turn out to be perfect. Also, don’t be afraid of a little rain during your wedding. We have learned that rainy days produce the most perfect lighting for wedding pictures and videos.
We did our first 14er! I felt nauseated the entire time, and kept giving up every 30 seconds because it was all up hill and windy. At the last part, we were crawling on rocks to reach the summit. 7 miles total, 3,000 ft difference in elevation. So proud of @lawrence_madejas for conquering his fear of heights. . . . . . #mountains #lawriantravels #rmnp #colorado #mtbierstadt #14er #letsgoeverywhere #travel #travelgram #hiking #coloradomountains #first14er #co14ers #coupleslovetravel #glt #gltlove #girlslovetravel
How did you find your filmmaker, Olena Films, and what made you choose them?
We found Olena Films through Instagram. We really loved the editing and vibe of their films. They were full of emotions and raw. We met up with them for coffee and we just all clicked instantly. They were hilarious, easy-going, and we could tell that they really cared about us and what made our story special. We laughed the whole time and ended up becoming close friends with them throughout the process and remained friends after the wedding. We’re so lucky to have met them and they have made our time in Colorado so much more worthwhile.
What is your favorite moment from your wedding video?
The first 40 seconds was incredible. It gets us every single time and we’ve probably watched it 100 times. They were little flashbacks of our travels from the past year. Meili asked us for little snippets of our travel two days before she was finishing up our video. She wasn’t sure if what she had envisioned was going to work because she and Stephen have never edited it that way before. This goes to show how much effort they put into their videos. Another favorite part was how they captured Lawrence pause during the ceremony because of all the emotions he was feeling while reciting his vows. We basically love every second of the film. Every time we watch it, we find another detail that we missed from before, and we fall in love over again.
Your story of meeting, getting engaged, and marrying each other in one year sounds like a one-in-a-million fairytale! Was there a single moment where you knew you wanted to spend the rest of your lives with each other?
We both pretty much knew within the second week. We both clicked right away and couldn’t stand being away from each other. So it wasn’t a single moment, it was more so every moment we spent together was a clue that we both wanted to spend the rest of our lives together traveling and eating tacos. And donuts. Disclaimer: we’re eating donuts as we’re typing this.
What do you think the ~secret sauce~ to your relationship is?
Our “appetite” for travel. Get it? 😉 We always get excited about traveling and try to spend our free weekends exploring new places and eating new foods.
Name your three favorite places to spend time together in Colorado!
Lakewood, Colorado where my parents live, anywhere in the mountains, and this taco restaurant called Pinche tacos. We looooove the pork belly tacos and Moscow mules.
What are you most looking forward to in married life?
We want to keep traveling to more places as a married couple. We’re also looking forward to growing old and building a family together.
If you were to guess, where will you be and what will you be doing when you celebrate your 10-year wedding anniversary?
Our dream is to go to Bora Bora to just relax and eat more tacos.
