From The Bride:

Matt and I had known each other for quite some time as acquaintances since Matt has worked with my brother Brian for 10 years now. But it wasn’t until I took the chance and moved into my own place in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan after 5 years of being single in Hoboken, when Matt and I reconnected through a mutual friend and became fast friends, living only 10 blocks away from each other. I was ready to meet someone who I could share my days with, who had the same values as me, who made me laugh, and who was just a thoughtful, kind person. That is exactly what I found when I started dating Matt; we were inseparable after our first few dates, we never looked back, moved in together and ended up never leaving Hell’s Kitchen! We dated for almost 4 years before Matt proposed on Labor Day when we got back to our apartment after one of our “staycation” adventures exploring Red Hook, Brooklyn. Anyone that is close to us knows that we love our games and puzzles, especially crosswords. We have a book that we bring every where with us so it was so special and appropriate that Matt used this as part of the engagement, making his own clue and having me answer it. The ring was placed on the tip of the pencil that we keep placed in the book, and when I opened the book, the tears came immediately as I saw Matt down on one knee. After my initial shock, we walked down our block to the Hudson River to catch the sunset, a favorite thing we like to do. It meant so much to me for Matt to propose in our very first apartment together, in the neighborhood where our love story began.

Something Matt and I share is our zest for trying new things, whether it be exploring a new town, being the first to try a new restaurant or bar in our neighborhood, or taking road trips to the Catskills, we are always looking for that next adventure. So for Matt’s birthday one year, I made reservations at a new restaurant in the West Village that was a true farm-to-table restaurant (with their own sustainable farm in the northern Catksills) known for their pork, an absolute favorite of Matt’s. This Michelin star restaurant was also featured in Interior Design magazine as being one of the sexiest restaurants in NYC, which is actually how I really found them, through my love for interior design. Well our experience was nothing short of amazing and after we got engaged I never forgot that Blenheim was starting to do weddings on their farm upstate. We only looked at 3 venues total during our wedding planning, two in Brooklyn and Blenheim Deciding to get married at Blenheim Hill Farm was the easiest decision we made in our wedding planning process. We took the 3 hour drive north of NYC on a cold November day, there was already a light blanket of snow on the ground, and met with the owners Morten and Min. They welcomed us with warm tea into the vintage farmhouse on site and we sat as they got to know us as a couple and truly made us feel like family. We toured the farm, which was a working farm until the 70’s, then dormant until Morten and Min bought it in 2012 and brought it back to life, making it a sustainable and working farm again. Even though the farm was muddy and covered in snow, the beauty was unmistakeable. We knew this was exactly where we wanted to share our vows with each other in front of 250 of our closest family and friends. We chose our date of August 26th that day and confirmed the final plans with Carol, the event coordinator. Honestly, the rest of the planning just fell into place. I already had my photographer Veronica Lola picked out who was recommended to me by a close friend. Veronica and her husband shoot in both film and digitally which is something I knew I wanted, her light, romantic and airy photos matched my taste exactly. I knew I wanted to choose a florist from the Catskills, preferably a small, family owned business who we could support who also knew the area well and had a sense for what the Catskills are all about. I didn’t want our flowers to overpower, I wanted them to complement the farm and feel seamless, like they were already a part of the landscape. And believe me, the farm doesn’t need much in terms of flowers, it is STUNNING as is. We trusted a very close friend of ours to DJ our wedding who is also starting his own business, let’s just say, he KILLED it. We could not have been happier with our music, we knew after good food, dancing and music were our next biggest priorities. I also knew I wanted to create a cool, rustic lounge scene complete with life size Jenga and Connect 4 (a nod to our love for games) so I contacted Hudson Valley Vintage Rentals and worked with the owner Tammy to create a laid-back lounge at the cocktail hour, which was perfect since our reception was indoor/outdoor, guests got to enjoy it throughout the night.

We honestly could not have been happier with our wedding day. Every single vendor we used truly cared about us as a couple and making our vision come to life. We were ecstatic that our friends and family made the journey up to one of our favorite areas in the world, the Catskills to share the beauty of the area. It’s a place we will forever hold close to our hearts. As we head off to New Zealand for our honeymoon, we will be visiting a town in the wine region called Blenheim, and I have a feeling every anniversary will be spent with Morten and Min down on Little West 12th and West 4th, at the restaurant, where the people and the food now feel like home to us.
