From The Bride:
Arv and I were introduced by mutual friends. He was very hesitant to go on a blind date, but as soon as I walked into the little coffee shop in Long Island- The Witches Brew, he knew he had made the right decision. We each had one iced tea as it was in the summer and spent the next four hours talking. We hit it off so well and had so much to talk about, food would have just gotten in the way. Things moved pretty quickly from there and 3 months later we were smitten with each other.
One and a half years later, while on a skiing trip in Brekenridge, Colorado, Arv and our friends planned a surprise proposal right on the slopes on the most glorious day there. He was so afraid that he would lose the ring, but he didn’t. From the time he told me to stop and look at the view to the moment he slipped that brilliant blue sapphire on my finger, it was a dream come true!
We decided on a summer wedding which meant that it had to be planned in 7 months, but I was fine with that. We selected a gorgeous not for profit barn venue in upstate New York for the views, and seclusion and everything from there was a breeze. I did use thumbtack to find vendors and am soo happy with the service. One thing that I learned from this whole process is the importance of bargaining and not being afraid to negotiate. I got my photographer and cinematographer at a steal using this method. My MOH is really handy with a sewing machine and so she made all of the flower girl dresses. One of my dearest friends from college has a passion for everything green and she offered to do all of the bouquets, flower crowns and centerpieces. I used online craft stores for the ski boutonnieres and assembled the invitations on my own. We also used amazon for lawn games and the T-rex costumes ( we had a super fun time). Having a day of planner was also one of the best decisions we could have made. She made sure that everything was in order and thought of things that I would have otherwise neglected. I had soo much fun doing this, I would do it again in a heartbeat…if it didn’t cost so much! In the end though, being surrounded by family and friends is what it’s all about. Having good weather, great vibes and love makes it only better!
