From The Bride:
Michael and I met through our mutual best friends, Burt and Michelle. We were long distance for a year and a half, as I lived in Manhattan and Mike in Philadlephia. Shortly after we were both in the bridal party in our best friends wedding, I made the move down to Philly. A year later, Mike surprised me with a trip to Martha’s Vineyard on New Years Eve. I grew up going to the island for vacation and to visit my grandparents, who lived there full time. Mike proposed on the docks just down the walk from the front of the Kelly House hotel, where my parents had eloped 38 years earlier. It was the most incredibly thoughtful and romantic surprise, and we were able to celebrate in our own little world that night, although surrounded by hundreds for the Harbor View Hotel’s annual NYE bash, live bands, fireworks and all. When we woke up the next morning, I said “Mike, we have to get married here.” Just a few hours after his proposal, he thought I was crazy, but it was a no brainer. The photographer who snapped our first official photo as an engaged couple that night was our wedding photographer, the band was the band we heard live NYE, Burt and Michelle were our best man and matronof honor, and now, instead of a celebration with strangers, on May 14th we were surrounded by our 120 closest friends and family members. It was a day truly all about love, and a true tribute to my grandparents who passed away over 10 years ago, who I know were with us in spirit every moment of our day on their, and now our, favorite island in the world.
