From The Bride:

Elliott and I met his senior year of college and my junior year. We both attended Anderson University. Elliott played baseball there, majoring in Kinesiology, and I was majoring in Elementary Education. August of my junior year, Elliott’s best friend, Maggie, ended up sitting next to me in one of my education classes. Maggie and I hit it off right away, and I knew she would end up being a good friend of mine. After a few weeks of sitting next to each other during class, Maggie asks me, “Do you have a boyfriend? If you don’t, I REALLY think you would be perfect for my best friend Elliott!”. At the time I was single, but not necessarily looking for a relationship. Maggie kept going on and on about Elliott and how he plays baseball and how he is best friends with her and her boyfriend, Roy. She showed me and picture, and I was definitely intrigued by his good looks. Low and behold, a few days later I get a Facebook friend request from the one and only, Elliott Tolley. Obviously, I was excited and accepted. Life went on, and fall turns into winter, and Elliott and I still haven’t met or talked. The semester ends, and the class I had with Maggie was over. We still kept in touch, but I still never met this mysterious man named Elliott. Well, it is VALENTINES day, and I’m heading to class while drinking a huge mug of coffee. Randomly that day, I took a different path to class because I was going to stop by the restroom (the huge mug of coffee, haha). As I take my different path, I FINALLY see Elliott on campus, walking out of his classroom. We instantly make eye contact, and I remember him smiling and then nodding his head at me. Let me tell ya, my heart dropped. He was drop dead gorgeous, and totally my type. In my head I kept thinking, I’ve seen this boy before, who is he?! It hits me, that is the “baseball boy” Maggie was trying to set me up with! After a few days, I decided to text Maggie and tell her I saw this mysterious boy she was trying to set me up with, SIX months later. Maggie asks me to go to a baseball game with her to watch Elliott and Roy (Maggie’s boyfriend & Elliott’s best friend). I accept, and went to his baseball game on March 4th, 2011. It was a Friday and it was a COLD, RAINY, & WINDY day. I remember sitting there with Maggie shaking, wrapped up in a blanket, watching this boy I had a crush on play baseball. Afterwards, we waited for them to wrap up the game ( We sat in the car, because it was that cold), and then I see that cute boy walk up in his baseball uniform to my car. We OFFICIALLY met on this cold Friday. We spend the next few days texting, but I left the next week for Mexico for spring break, and Elliott had baseball games. The whole time while I was in Mexico I kept thinking about him, which is not like me at all! I knew I was hooked. I get back, and that is when things got serious. We started hanging out daily, and I would attend his baseball games. One Saturday, while watching him play, I saw this women in the stands who looked just like Elliott. My heart started beating so fast, I knew this was his mom. We finally meet and talked, and she started telling me all these embarrassing stories about Elliott, and I knew right then that I was going to love this family. I found out later that when Elliott’s mom and dad left the game that day, Elliott’s mom turned to his dad and said, “Donnie, Elliott is going to marry that girl, I know it!”. Elliott graduated in May, and then I was invited on a beach trip with him and some of his friends who recently graduated. We had such an amazing beach trip, where he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. I remember we went to a karaoke bar, and the song Let Me Down Easily by Billy Currington was popular, it was playing, and Elliott and I were slow dancing. Later, I found out that Elliott knew right then and there that he was in love with me and that he would marry me one day. Our relationship continues, Elliott gets a pharmaceutical job, I’m continuing to get my elementary education degree. I finally graduate, and get my first teaching job. Elliott at this time lives in Asheville, NC, working for a pharmaceutical company. Elliott then applies to Physical Therapy School, and gets accepted. I’m so happy for him, but at this time we have been dating for 3 years, and most of that time we have lived in different states. Before Elliott started school in January of 2015, we went to Chicago for Christmas with Elliott’s family. I was so excited to be in Chicago for Christmas. The day after Christmas, Elliott and I decide to go eat at the John Hancock building. We have been there before previously when we visited Chicago, and the view from the building is breathtaking. We both got all dolled up for a date night in the city. After dinner, Elliott’s brother, who lives in Chicago, called and wanted to us to meet him at a bar. Since we aren’t from Chicago, Elliott’s brother said he would meet us downtown in front of a church ( I saw the church earlier that day and LOVED it. I kept going on and on about how beautiful it was). As Elliott and I are sitting there in front of the church, waiting for his brother, he wraps his arms around me and whispers to me, “Are you ready?”, I look at him with a weird look, and he just grins SO big and says, “LILY, are you ready?”, I finally just scream, “FOR WHAT?”, Elliott then gets on one knee, in front of a beautiful church, surrounded by hundreds of people. I scream and say, “YES, YES”, and then I turn around and I see Elliott’s whole family walk up, they were taking pictures the whole time. I am SO shocked and stunned. I was SO happy that I was lucky enough to find this man, and that I was going to spend the rest of my life with him. A year and half later, we get married, at a family home in Greenville, SC. Tears come to my eyes when I think about our wedding. Such a special day, being surrounded by family and friends, celebrating our marriage. After five years of dating, we are husband and wife! We get to see each other everyday, rather than twice a month. Marriage life has been incredible the past 3 months. Even when it is a long day at work, I smile on the way home, because I know I”m going home and get to be with the man I love. We inspire and encourage each other. The way be believes in me it indescribable, and I thank the Lord everyday for giving me this sweet man.
