From The Bride:
Haley Buchanan (25) and Spencer Price (27) said their “I do’s” on a warm afternoon in August, at the ever so gorgeous Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, NC. The setting was perfect for an unforgettable day, beautiful views of the Blueridge Mountains, a calm lake with wonderfully manicured gardens and grounds. The couple chose Lake Lure, NC for more than just the fact that Haley grew up right down the road. Spencer and Haley met in college at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and Lake Lure bears a striking resemblance to the stunning mountains where they first fell in love. Spencer grew up on the water and really wanted to incorporate that into the wedding so the combination of mountain and lake made the picture perfect setting for the two to tie the knot.
Haley being an event planner herself planned every detail of their wedding day going above and beyond to ensure their special day included personal touches and sentiments that were important to the couple and reflected their unique relationship to the fullest. Prior to the ceremony the couple chose to honor Spencer’s Kentucky upbringing by partaking in the “Burying of the Bourbon” ceremony – it is said that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at your wedding site 1 month prior to the wedding you are guaranteed to have perfect weather. The wedding ceremony itself was full of love as Spencer’s brother performed the ceremony and both Haley and Spencer’s mothers were included in ceremony readings. It was important for the couple that they integrated traditions from both families as not only they were becoming one, but the families would be as well.
Drawing inspiration from the resorts manicured grounds Haley worked to incorporate a muted palette of the couples beloved college colors into the florals and décor of the day while staying true to the simple beauty of the mountainous backdrop. Using peonies, knockout roses and moss touches Haley worked with her florist to create multiple custom tablescapes so that each table was unique in its own way. After saying “I do” with the picturesque North Carolina Mountains as their backdrop the couple celebrated with a reception that kept with the charming southern theme while allowing Haley and Spencer to showcase the more fun, playful side of their relationship. The couple opted for a Southern custom of a quilt for guests to sign with well wishes instead of the traditional guest book. Guests were gifted jars of homemade jam from a favorite local farm of the couples. The couple worked together with their DJ to create a playlist which incorporated songs that the couple loved and they knew their guests would love bringing back many high school and college memories through song. After performing their first dance to a slow rendition of “500 Miles” the party kicked off as Haley and Spencer danced the evening away with family and friends by their side. Rumbling Bald Resort was a filming location in the movie “Dirty Dancing” so it was a perfect fit for a couple who loves to show off their dance moves. As you’ll see in the images that follow, Haley and Spencer are a couple that share a certain uniqueness that is to be desired. A great looking couple that love each other even more than they love a good dance song.
