From The Bride: Daniel and I met almost 5 years ago while attending college in Salina, Kansas. I was from California and Daniel was from Kansas not too far from where we were attending school. Both of us were on scholarships for soccer. Halloween was coming up and everyone on the soccer team was going to a "barn party". Being from California, having a party in a barn sounded so different and fun to me! I just had to go! I dressed up as Luigi and Mario with one of my best friends and went to the party. At the end of the night, I needed a ride. A guy with a goofy afro wig on (Daniel) asked me if I needed a ride, and I luckily said yes. We have been inseparable since that night, flying and driving back and fourth from Kansas to California. For our 3 year anniversary, Daniel had told me we were going to my absolute favorite place. We were going to New York City over Valentines Day weekend. I couldn't be more excited, even though I had to wait 3 months for our trip. Our trip to NYC was nothing but an adventure, right from the minute we got off the plane. We got picked up in a limo which crashed into another car on the way to our hotel. It was one of those moments so insane the only thing you could do was laugh. Each day was packed with different things to see and do. We froze our butts off at The Statue of Liberty, took "selfies" in Times Square, and shoved our faces with lots of food (especially late night 99 cent pizza). We had each day planned out to a tee. When Saturday came around, I didn't know how we were going to walk all the way through New York again with it being so cold. Both of us had layers upon layers of clothing on. We had stopped about 5 times, as Daniel had to keep using the "restroom". Little did I know, he was making phone calls to the bike rider who was about to come pick us up for a carriage ride around Central Park. We had finally arrived to the edge of Central Park where a bike was waiting for us. I still was completely oblivious and just thought that this was my Valentines Day present. I was honestly too happy to see the driver had blankets for us. We went through Central Park seeing all the beautiful and famous sites. I have always wanted to go to the Bethesda Fountain and Bow Bridge, which overlooks the lake. We got out at both places to take pictures. The driver had offered to take pictures and came with us. I didn't think anything other than him being generous and taking pictures for us. I have always wanted a picture on the bridge overlooking the lake and the city behind. Once we got there, the driver was having trouble working the camera. I was taking in the moment while Daniel tried figuring out the camera. Next thing I knew, I turned around and Daniel was on one knee. I was shocked! After taking off my layers of gloves on my hand, I finally had the prettiest ring on my finger and just said YES to spending the rest of my life with the man of my dreams!! If only our NYC trip ended that perfectly. The next day we found out that ALL flights in and out of NYC were cancelled due to extreme weather and nothing was flying out for at least 4 days. Daniel and I were forced to rent a car and begin our journey back home, driving 1,360 miles back to Salina. Life together has definitely been an adventure, but I wouldn't want to go through this crazy ride with anyone else. Fast forward a year and 3 months later, it was the best day of our lives. I wouldn't trade anything for the relationship that Daniel and I have. I know our love will only continue to grow for each other and I look forward to the adventures ahead that we get to share together.
